If I were you, I'd jump on that deal before someone else does. Prices in Europe might be better, though.

As far as I am aware, it will fit any G50 from a 964 or 993. I believe it's part number 950.332.083.38. It's the 40/65 lock-up version. (I know the C2 LSDs are interchangable, I'm not sure about C4's - but that's a G64 anyway and not a G50).

Mark: I think so, but I have not looked at it. All I know for sure is it's the LSD that comes with a G50/32 because that's what it came out of.

If it's an RSCS LSD, I would be amazed if it were the crappy two plater that the stock 993 has.

Follow-up ... (I'm back from vacation)

I spoke to Jerry Woods today, he had taken apart the /32 to remove the LSD and inspected it. He said his recollection is that it was a 4-plate and definitely was carbon fiber disks (which is not what the stock uses).

the 40/65 lsd in the /30, /31 and /32 is the motorsports version w/ 2x the plates as the stockers.

I wish I could find a mechanic to install mine for that much. Everyone mechanic I've talked to in my area wants to take the transmission out and charge me 10 hours of labor

I've been inquiring about the LSD option myself. My mechanic said that it can be done without dropping the tranny, but it is a tight squeeze. Labor will also depend on how many times they have to make adjustments to get it right. His rough estimated was that I would likely be charged for a full day.

I talked to the guys at Guard and the new units now are close to $3,000 (ouch!). They will rebuild a Porsche motorsport unit with Guard internals for anywhere between $450 - $700 depending on what is required and what you want to have done. A new 40/65 motorsport LSD direct from Porsche (through Sunset) is $1680 plus shipping and about 1 month for delivery (this apparantly includes a 2 year warranty).

Here's an interesting question (maybe a few of you know where I'm going with this), but do you think it would be worth $6000 for a regear with the same parts and specs as the g50/32 including new porsche gears and all the upgraded internals (synchros, shift fork, etc)?

If you can get a full rebuild to /32 spec for $6k that will be the deal of the century.
you will need a new mainshaft to start and the second gear syncro alone is ~$2k

rebuit /32 from Porsche was ~ $13k+core exchange 2 yrs ago.

I am installing a Guard diff next Monday in a customers car. We install it with the tranny in the car. If you have the proper tools, you can take precise measurements and no need for trial process for setting the shims.

Another option for diffs is a Cupcar (996ish) unit. We install these all the time when folks don't want to spend $3K for a diff (unless it is a high HP car then we tend to stay with the Guard).

If I remember my bill correctly, the /32 from Porsche, shipped from Germany, was $15k 6 months ago (including the fee for no core exchange).

From past experience with my 993, the mainshaft replacement was $1500. As Bill says, the steel synchros for 2nd are the big ticket. Other than that, you might pay $6k for the rest of the synchros and gears, but it doesn't include the labor.

So, here's where I came up with the $6K number:

If I buy a new LSD now and have it installed I'd have to pay between ($2500 - $3500) including labor for a Motorsport vs. Guard LSD respectively. I may have a lead on a new G50/32 for $13K (without core exchange), which includes the motorsport LSD already installed. I should be able to get at least $4K for my current tranny (less then 26k miles on her). Labor for the tranny swap will be a wash as I am planning on doing the LWF/RS clutch anyway. So, my additional cost to get a new G50/32 tranny would be roughly $6K more than if I just add LSD and LWF/RS clutch to my current car. Thoughts?
