"immobilizer under the passenger seat"

It's not an immobilizer. It's the an alarm unit. The immobilizer on the
'96 (and '95/2) and later 993s was placed under the driver's seat.
This and the DME ECM were covered with sheet metal with non-removeable
nuts. The '95 993 used the alarm unit (actually the door locks) to control
a spark inhibiting box (not an immobilizer).

An immobilizer ECU requires a RF communication from a remote key fab.
Once this communication is received AND the code is veried by the immobilzer,
the immobilizer sends a signal to the DME ECM allowing it to run the engine.
Starter inhibit (cranking) can be bypassed but not the DME ECM command
signal from the immobilizer. Actually, only the 996 and later Porsches have
a true immobilizer, i.e. a stored unique code in both the DME and immobilizer.

Bottom line: Determine carefully which model 993 you have.

Thanks Loren, so as I suspected, my 9/94 build date 993 does NOT have the immobilizer.
