80 pounds? Off the top of my head. I've got everything from the yellow car sitting around that I could weigh if no one else pops in. Biggest question I have is why? The RSA has the a/c still installed, took it out for a couple of sessions last week...........and could I tell any appreciable difference? No.

I'm sorry, I disagree with this 100%. With a seat and harness you must have a bar above your head. Cars at DE's are at risk of rolling. Safety is not worth weight savings IMHO.

I used to think the same thing. Then I talked to a lot of 911 track junkies who have been DE'ing 911's for decades. And none of them have ever seen or heard of an incident of cabin intrusion due to rollover. My friend Kurt M (those who visit the racing forum will recognize the name) recommended using just a harness bar. I'll tempt fate.

I agree with the weight loss mantra (to a point). Lighter cars stop faster and accelerate better.
My car is just under 2,800. I don't have any fiberglass, so the next pounds are the expensive ones. I did cut out my sunroof and welded the exterior panel and replaced the headliner with a sheet of vinyl.
I did not see on your list the Pax airbag. The sound deadening on the floor is really heavy too.

The sound deadening material and carpet are not more than roughly 30 lbs. I think the Ac was more like 45 lbs (compressor and all the piping - except the parts behind the gas tank).
For a DE car I really think it's misplaced effort. Yes you might lose a few pounds heck, you might even pull out 200 or so. So what? You'll be all of maybe a second or so faster and you can "win" your DE. You really should simply put the effort into the guy/gal behind the wheel. A good driver can get a 3000 lb car around the track faster than a mediocre driver can get a 2700 lb car around the same track. You'll drop a lot more time by simply learning to drive better (assuming you are beginner to intermediate).

After a long day in the heat, turning on the AC when I drive home makes that weight worth every single pound. The earlier cars AC was marginal at best. The 993 system actually works. And unless you taking out the front HVAC system, I bet the Compressor, Lines, Receiver/Dryer and Evaporator weighs closer to 40-45# as Tom points out..

But Don, you are well into the advanced intermediate category and definitely not a beginner. Putting a lump of lead like myself in the passenger seat will definitely slow you down.

Juha,
In case you are not aware of this thread by Princeton Wong. A lot of details to be gleaned.

I think Princeton's inspirational thread should be up as a sticky IMHO.
Enjoy.

Ultimately your point is well taken. After 2800#, the $/pound of weight loss grows exponentially. So unless you are running into TTOD problems for your class, the extra weight loss can't compensate for driver skill. So to expand your example, PCA class record for TT8 at Thill is about 2:05, so I have 6 seconds to go before additional weight loss should even enter my wallet.
