Default Sport Seat Differences

Someone asked me what the difference was between 993 sport seats and 996 sport seats. Anyone know the answer?

Here are photos of my 996 seats (out of a GT3).

Mounting is different. Different rails. They can be modified to fit. I know Leland Pate did a write up here on RL for the mod.

The center insert pattern is different. I think the backs are different too.

The 996 rails only require slight modification. LP cut off the alignment pins. I did the same thing on the driver side, but left the alignment pins in place on the passenger side.

Other than that, the only modification was the wiring harness.

LP install: https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ht=sport+seats

They look almost identical, except for the pattern:

FWIW, I tried out a set of 996 sport seats in my 993C2 and found my standard 993 seats suited me better.A) The 996 seats were lower in the car, and I'm sorta short at 5'7". B) I liked the power height adj on the 993 seats better than the spring thing that the 996 seat uses. C) Overall,The 993 seats seem better built and didn't really seem that much heaver, although I didn't weigh them.
Finally I figured that while my friend was gonna give me a killer deal on the seats, If I was gonna change out the seats I would rather have a more purpose style seat, like Euro GT3's, or Recaro's.
YMMV & Just my 2cents.

The fronts look almost the same.
On the backs, mine have a PORSCHE logo where the bag holder is & no pockets, just a smooth back.

I was once told that the 993 SS are a tad heavier than the 996 SS.

You're right about the weight - the 996 Sport Seats are about the same weight as the standard 993 seats. Also, I agree that the pneumatic height adjustment isn't as nice as the power height adjustment. Build quality, however, seems similar.

After driving a few months with the 996 seats, I've noticed that the leather is nicer than the standard 993 seats and they seem to hold you in place better (more support?).

Didn't put mine on the scale before I installed them, but the 996 GT3 sport seats are pretty close in weight to the standard 993 seats. Not sure if the 993 hard backs weigh more.

Bag holder is almost useless. Barely fits my sun shade.

Ask Chris if he stashed some lead ingots inside the foam.

Yeah, no kidding. Maybe he didn't like the stock weight distribution.
