Good luck. Porsche really over thought this system when they introduced it and has been a real sore spot with owners over the years.

So the interior light will go off/on every time the door is opened/closed? Sticky switch, perhaps? Darn... thought for sure this was your problem...

Yep, I looked at those areas nad all appears well.
Thanks for the note though.
The simple solution is to pull the key out EVERY time I get out.
Even if it is parked in my garage.

Check your door pin switch that makes the interior light go on/off when you open/close the door. If it has rusted and is not working properly, the drive block signal uses it to determine if the door has been opened or not. In your case, you unlocked the door with the engine running, the drive block may not have gotten a signal that the door had opened with the engine still running and automatically relocked the door after 20-30 seconds.

Is the drive block system supposed to lock the doors under these circumstances?
The only time my car does that is when I have unlocked the car, but then not opened the door; the car will re-lock itself after about 45 seconds.
My car only locks with the engine running if I push the lock button on the console; otherwise the doors stay unlocked.
I think there may be something wrong with your drive block system. Am I misinformed?

I haven't had this happen but I'm going to learn from your experience. Ive left the keys in the car in the driveway when I wash it but the spare is in the house. Usually at the gas station I roll the window down a couple of inches just to be safe, Ill make sure I do that from now on. Hopefully all of us will learn something from your misfortune.

Bill,
I started this thread to ask if this is a common problem and to alert everyone that it happened to me.
Most importantly, I posted it just to vent!

When I was 20 years old or so, I had a Pontiac Grand Am that would lock itself while idling. It would get to a certain rpm and lock. I guess it was supposed to be a safety feature, but the car was such a piece of crap it would rev up and down while idling. I was locked out of it several times before I figured out what was going on!

Just last weekend, I unlocked with the remote, opened the passenger door and kept it open. About 1 minute later, I heard the chuck (a "sometimes" satisfying, solid sound of the Porsche door locks activating). The passenger door was OPEN!!! I think that the dome light works properly off of that door, so it wasn't a broken door switch...
arrgghhh. I"m with you Bob, this is frustrating. Nice pic of the car and the Flintstone wall behind it.

It is one photo I won't forget how I got it.
Trust me, I'll never even lay the key on the on teh floor and shut the door.
I only happy that I wasn't any further from home.

Been there done that..........however, in all cases I was either in the car heading down the road and more than once standing outside the car with key in hand .... not touching the button. Just does it and no idea why.
Your car looks a bit like a twin to mine btw. You have outstanding taste.

I too always check that the window is down and/or the sunroof is open before I leave the keys in the ignition. Glad to hear that everything worked out in the end. And, we all, learned a valuable lesson here...
