How Long Have You Had Your 993?

Interesting that rennlist participants in the poll tail off after 3 years of ownership or so... Was there a peak of interest in the 993 in the last 3-4 years ago, or does the typical user get bored with the board after 3 years or so?

I think it's that they've come down in value enough that some folks, like me, can realistically get into them without selling a kidney. I wasn't even thinking I'd be able to get a 993 when I was looking late last year, but would scan the sales just to see if one popped up. Lucky for me it did and is the perfect car for me!

Picked my Targa up October 26th, 2007 and had it in my garage with title at 8:30pm. The reason I mention this is at 9:30 the following morning a guy from out of town showed up at the dealer with a bank draft to buy this car. My purchase was meant to be.

Flew to the ATL to get mine on 8/04. Than quickly realized that there are a bunch of "Freaks" out there like myself that think the 993 is the best car on the planet. Oh did I just say that?

As they become knowledgable, involvement can drop a bit.
If they are here for social as much as educational purposes, they stay very active. Otherwise their activity diminishes to a degree, though they'll pop up from time to time.
Because new owners are always coming in, their learning curves tend to re-introduce subjects each previous "generation" has already discussed. Which is why a little time in "search" can be so rewarding. (Maybe for my RennList doctorate, I'll do a thesis on CEL discussions being similar to growth rings on a tree. Better yet, I'll use "undertray removal", or "Why Polar Silver Cars Are Fastest".)
Having been here for 8 or 9 years, I find the more interesting shifts on this board to revolve around how members derive enjoyment from their cars.
We seem to have cycles of detailing focus, mods focus, get-together focus, and track focus.
Gert and Steve W. seem to be the two constants. And of course, Ray Calvo was, til we lost him.
Also Viken, til he went and opened a watch swap shop

My take: When they first acquire the car, RL Noobs are learning everything they can about it. Hence they are very active initially. Rennlist is an incredible resource. (I wish I had it when I bought my first P-car in '87 -- I wouldn't have been nearly so **** about it)

j/k about the watch shop, (tho he's something of an expert on quality watches).
Fill started that in another thread
V's still in the cabinent/kitchen/remodel business in L.A. I hear it's doing quite well.
I haven't had the occasion to go to LA-LA in a while. If I do I'll definitely look him up. He owes me a drink for taking me out to the Rennlist woodshed once when I didn't put "spoiler" in an F-1 thread.
