Default I'm Gonna Drive It!!!

I am looking to fellow RL'ers for some support. Let me explain.

I bought a beautiful '97 993 Cabriolet in December of '06. I bought this 993 after selling my '02 996 Coupe. I enjoyed the coupe but it just lacked the character of the air-cooled cars. So I went looking for a 993 and found my car. It is arctic siver (black top) with special-order full terrcotta leather interior.

The car had 44,000 miles when I purchased it and now has 47,000 miles. I am embarrassed to say that it has been a bit of a garage queen in my ownership. But all that is changing.......I have decided to make this car my daily driver and drive it!!

I'd love to hear from fellow RL'ers who have put some miles on their 993. Even as a DD, I will likely put less than 12,000 miles/yr on the car. The car is absolutely pristine and I am a bit nervous about taking the plunge and using it as a DD, but I love every minute driving this car so I'm going to do it.

Thanks in advance for your comments, tips, and perspective!

Gary,

I have 121,246 miles on my Ruf. In 10 days, I will take it on a 7-days, 3,700 miles road trip to Ruf in Dallas and back.

I say, drive it. Enjoy before it is too late.

BTW, where are you located?

Gary,

As you drove about 3,000 miles in 14 months, I was wondering if you live in the NE and had to store your car 6 months at a time. Obviously an AZ car has no such limitations.

Enjoy in great health.

He who dies with the least amount of miles on their car is still dead.

106,000+ and going strong! I put about 15k a year on it in the Bay Area.

Although, I'll be moving to Hawaii at the end of the Summer. With nowhere to drive, my miles should go down to below 5K a year - even as a DD!

I put 3,000 miles on my C4S last summer where it is parked in my Flagstaff garage on the weekends.
I hope to put at least 2,000 miles per month on it beginning in April when all of the salt, cinders and sand are off the northern AZ roads.
Get out and enjoy the beautiful Arizona roads.
You only live once.

I'd say if it's got under 30K, it's a collector piece. Over that "magic" mark, just go drive it.

Sounds like a very nice color combo especially with full leather. Can you post pics of the interior? I'm guessing it's similar to my Polar/Chestnut combo (which I just purchased in Phoenix.)

Thanks for all the encouragement!!

Rich.......WOW, over 220,000 miles and Javier at 152,000.........you guys are my new heroes!!!

Are there any particular service issues I should be aware of as I start to put some miles on the car? I should note that I have an excellent mechanic in Ken Rosegay at Zuffenhausen Motors here in Scottsdale, who I found from recommendations on the RL Board.

Congrats, Gary. I have decided to make my pristine '95 C2 (40K miles) a DD this year as well. I've had mine for 6 years and I'm ready for this next phase of ownership.

Enjoy your Porsche!

Gus
