I've been thinking the same thing. My 1997 cab has 18k miles on it. Although I would only drive it for 6 months or so here in Michigan, I'm considering making it my DD. Or, based on the miles, should I keep it a collector? I still have my 1994 E500 if need be.

103k miles here, spins like a well balanced top. I don't drive it in the winter any longer but it has been my D/D otherwise. The only "reliability" issues I have had is the starter motor and the alternator going. Alternator was abrupt failure, the starter I saw it coming. Other than that no issues other than a top end last year and normal wear items just like evey other car.
