Yeah, I saw it on ESPN last week. Pretty cool ad. Don't see many Porsche ads on TV

Classic - what other car maker could make a commercial like that.

Ok, maybe a few, but how many would or do make a commercial like that.

That's the new GTS Cayenne. V8 with a manual.
That ought to be some driver.

I'll be the first, and perhaps last, dissenter to say that it doesn't thrill me. Porsche has done much better ads in the past.

They have been blowing this commercial up on Speed this week. Which is a bit ironic since it is Daytona 500 speedweek. Great to see also.

X10

That was a totally lame ad. Some urban poseur sitting in an SUV revving the motor....you gotta be kidding me.

Exactly my thoughts. Blipping the throttle is quite a lame homage to the marque's great race history.

I want to see a Porsche version of this one:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3j3KjTK3j0w

If the Cayenne GTS lost a few inches in every dimension, and about 800 lbs, I could see it. It weighs almost 5000lbs for God's sake. It doesn't need to.

I flamed this over on OT a few weeks ago for exactly the reasons mentioned. We've gone to (literally) Vroom, Vroom, like you did when you were........oh........FIVE? So if my motorized rollerskate of a Smart made the "cool" sound, I'd be able to what, last longer and perform better????? If the meanest, most bad-*** performance car comes to be a Tesla descendent, then what?

I'll weigh in with one ad pro's opinion: nice production value, lame concept.

The heavy-handed corportate influence is crystal clear. Let me give you a peek at the Creative Brief mandatories:

1) Due to limited budgets, show as much of the full line as possible. We don't know if and when we'll be shooting TV again. BTW- this looks like about an $800K production budget. For comparison, at probably $8(?) million, the Shell-Ferrari F1 deal was and is still the gold standard. The Monaco shots just make my heart sink; the audio, sublime:

http://www.f1blog.org/2007/03/24/is-...mmercial-ever/

2) Help us justify our motorsports program by shoehorning an RS Spyder in there somewhere ,whether it "works" or not.

3) Use volume model (Cayenne) as hero, but feature perfomance model GTS to justify weak linkages to GT3, RS Spyder, etc. and provide "halo" effect to full Cayenne line.

4) Due to limited budgets, limit TV media buy to "enthusiast cable." (read: "Speed")

Bear in mind, this is an expensive 1 minute long ad. After the launch, look for the cut-down 30 second version, which is almost always less than half as good!

As others have proven, throttle blipping is clearly alienating the hardcore enthusiasts, but then again, Cayenne is most people's first P-car, so how hard core is that?

I agree with all points, but sadly I still like seeing Porsche on TV. If that's the best they can do, I guess it's better than simply not being there at all. YMMV...
