I posted this on pelican but no replies all day, so my question......
I have a 964RS steering rack that I bough for a 964 project car... long story short, I have a 993 project car and I want NON power steering set up.
DOES IT FIT? Anybody done this mod? Is it worth it? Do the stock 964RS tie rods work? what other parts are needed?
If I did this I would pull the power steering pump, bracket and lines and just store them for later if I decide to go back to a power set up.
Do 993 RS/RSR come with a power rack?
Would like some feedback on this.
Thank you

The reason I bought an RSA is because of the manual rack and love it, but it does get tiring on the track sometimes. It was interesting to me that when we hired Chris Cervelli to coach us last year, one of the first things he said when he drove my car is that he much preferred the power rack in the 993s for track work.....especially in enduros, IIRC. I would drive a car w/ a manual rack (and park it) and see if you like it. I'm keeping mine of course in the RSA, but my next car (in 2042) will be a GT3 and they have power steering.

I run a 964RS manual rack in my 993RS and I love it. However, I do work out, I don't drive it on the road and I don't do endurance events at the track. If I were you I would leave the power steering on the 993 unless the rack starts to leak. I could probably find a good home for the 964RS rack if you decide not to fit it.

I recently drove a 86 Carrera around a short track with sticky tires, 225s on the front and of course no power steering. It was a handful...I have gotten so spoiled with the 993 car's power steering. In fact, there is a company producing power steering for 89 and earlier cars...see it in the Smart Racing catalog. Does that tell you something?
I also have a pal with a RS America track car. The driver reports it is a hand full to drive on a twisty track for any length of time. I am never going back to manual...but that's just me.
Now if you are sporting massive arms, muy macho chest, etc., hit the weights on a regular basis and take steroids, maybe the manual rack is for you?

Ninemeister, you videos are great.
Just wondering.... can I use the 964RS tie rods with the stock 993 uprights?
What other parts would I need to install this rack into a stock 95 993?
Thanks again everybody.

I dunno, guys, my old '77 911 track car had 235's in the front and manual steering. And a small steering wheel! It was fine to drive. A little stiff in a parking lot, but nothing more annoying than that. 911's don't have a lot of weight over the front wheels; they're not like front-engined cars. I'd put in a manual rack if I could source one.

Still would like some feed back on this.
Thanks again

The steering gears are not the same on a 911 and 964
911 is ~3 turns lock to lock, non assisted
964 is ~2.81 turns lock to lock, assisted
993 is ~2.47 turns lock to lock (2.73 for 993RS), assisted
