Default Just installed Brad Penn oil- guess what happened?

My leaks went away.

Changed to 20w-50 Brad Pitt, er Sean Penn- I mean BRAD PENN! oil from Mobil 15-50 and my leaks have ceased. Which is a pity as I just bought new valve covers (yet to be installed).

After I changed the oil I drove over 200 hwy miles, then about 2-3 hours of hard track time. Each time checked, the pavement stains were conspicuous by their absence.

Is it the different viscosity or the make-up of the oil itself? Don't know and don't care.
Ok I want to know- anyone posit a theory?

p.s. as always YMMV.

Synthetic oil is more slippery than dino. What you experienced is pretty common.

Its semi-synthetic; shouldn't there still be semi-leaks?

I'm semi-sure that you'll get semi-leaks on a semi-recurring basis. But I only semi-know what I'm talking about.

I just changed my oil and decided to use regular off-the-shelf Crisco oil. Time will tell if I fry anything.

I was told ester-based oils tend to have more of a capillary action on the metals and can leak more.

If you use it in a Semi you can get leaks, but in a 993 you probably won't get any

Of course....it could simply mean that NO oil is getting to the valves any longer, thereby eliminating the need for any fix for the leaky valve cover gaskets. WAIT, this "fix" may rival the "remove the damn bulb" cure for the CEL problem!

Seriously, I think this myth was dispelled over a decade ago. What Ritter is describing isn't very scientific -- no offence.
