Good luck with the sale. The car look awesome. If I didn't already have a 2nd car daily driver rocket (740i sport), I'd be tempted. Oh yeah, I forgot, that's my Wife's car!

Hey Father... a local deal would be so easy for you!

not sure if this helps but i just bought (yesterday) a 2003 540i M-Sport (it is NOT an M5 but pretty damn close). car has 35K on it, jet black on black, well-optioned. I paid $24K for it, which was about 1K more than I wanted but this was the last year for the E39 and BMW threw all their leftover M5 bits into it, (except the motor of course) and their weren't too many low mileage ones on the market.

That's a very good price for a low mileage 2003. I looked at those mid last year but the prices were more than I was willing to pay.

Was this car a manual or auto? Just curious. That does sound like a very good deal.

Aren't all "M Sports" 6 speeds?

Great prices are showing up for these.

All M5s are 6 speed, but not all M Sports are 6 speed. M Sport is a 540I option that came in both chicktronic and stick.

Actually did a lil research since I saw this post and the 540I/Msport has dropped a few k since last spring/summer, it seems - could be wrong..

Nope, in fact most M sports are autos... 6-speeds were more rare and actually more expensive.

I sent Jeff a note, explaining my passing on the car. I hate having to be responsible. Given that I have two kids college yet to pay for (have a good bit saved but not enough yet). I thought I could work this out but 'almost buyers remorse' kicked in big time Sunday morning. All the other, more responsible things I could do with this money.... Stuff I really have to do. Just not in the cards.

My apologies to all for 'thinking outloud' here while I worked thru this. God, I love these M5's. I've driven a couple and when I hit it in second gear, I knew this was now at the top of my list, since I already had my Porsche. What a great package. Practical (somewhat ) and kickass.

Jeff-best of luck. You will find a buyer for this car. Your price is good.

It's all good, Chuck... sounds like you've got your priorities in the right place (for now at least!). She'll sell for sure... had two prospective buyers today and a deal looks imminent. I'll post as soon as I know.

Yes they're all six speeds. And Bill, since you just bought your BMW 840i, you get a mulligan!! :-)

Pong, I do feel very fortunate, but I think the car was babied and garaged before me so I may have gotten a good one. That and my faithful BMW service writer told me never, never, never pressure wash the engine because there are so many sensors in this engine that will fail if they get corroded. When you pressure wash your engine that water just sits in the sensors and ruins them. I heeded her advice and haven't had a problem yet. Who knows, might be a company line but I'm not compaining...

I have an Audi RS6 I have been trying to sell for the last 6 months. I think the market in these cars is very soft.

I noticed the 2003 540 M Sports are nearly as expensive as an M5 even though the M5 is way more car.

Trojanman, you're car looks to be in very nice condition, i hope it goes to a good home. GL with your sale. As a fellow M5 owner I'm a bit surprised at the market, but the housing situation seems to have had some impact.
