Default OT - Final attempt to sell E39 M5

Hey guys... I'm about to give up but thought I'd throw it out there one more time just in case.

'01 Imola Red E39 M5, 36k miles, $33,000

Here are two links to description and pics... note that aftermarket warranty is NOT transferrable as initially posted. Thanks.

You're killing me man.... that is the deal of the century. If I didn't already have one, I'd be all over it. There just is no other touring sedan on the planet that can compete at that price. I took a cruise with my 8-month pregnant wife and baby (2-year old) up to New Hope this weekend (initially bummed that we couldn't take the 993), but we needed the room (stroller, baby gear, etc).

Letting her rip on the open highway reminded me about the insanity of that car... total stealth performance for you + four and gear. It's pretty satisfying when you tear by a corvette and you see their jaws drop after this somewhat bland-looking sedan leaves them in the dust, while my baby waves a rattle at them from the rear seat. (safely within posted speed limits of course)

Jeff. Good luck. I've had little but I'm not going to give it away. I did get a decent offer on a trade for a 996TT but I got cold feet.

Jeff,

I know what you are going through, I have a good friend here in Portland trying to sell his E39 M5 as well. It's been on the market for 3 or 4 months. Hang in there.

Seems like a steal compared to this one.

Yep, market is definitely down. Thing is, the car is ostensibly an 02-03 with the upgraded dvd-based navi (no other real changes from '01 on). The low miles are really difficult to find too, so for $33k it should be a compelling proposition (assuming you like the color combo). Guess we'll see.

Love the story Glen... my kids don't have rattles but they still enjoy going fast!

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'll keep y'all posted.

Jeff,

Sorry to hear about the difficult sale. Is that the current market now? Meaning E39 M5 not moving on resale. That's sad as it is one of my favorite cars (when it's running right).

Good luck.

My parents just got $22k for their 00 M5 (66k miles) at a MD benz dealer, so your price isn't out of line.

I sold my 02 with about 60 miles a few months back for $31k as a data point. I had it for sale for about 2 months or so.

I had the exact same car.
Sold my 35k mile '01 w/CPO til 10/06 back in early '06 for $35k. And this was $5-7k more than any BMW dealer offered me at the time.

troj: IMHO, you might be looking at a $3-4k swing to move that baby.....anything less than that, keep it and drive it like you stole it.

I posted your info on my bimmerboard 7 series website to try and drum up some business for you and these are some of the responses so far...

"it is a very nice car. just not priced to sell. maybe he's upside down on it?"

"Price is about right.....if it was a 2002. 2001's had issues and if you don't drive these cars hard, you'll pay dearly to clean out the carbon build up ($8K for BMW to do it). Use it or loose it!"

"I've been watching them close....And you can get a e39 M5 for less then $20,000 with less then 75k on it if you look hard."

Just passing this info along... Good luck with the sale. I'd love to have it but we already have too many cars! I have lusted after the E39 M5 since they came out, as have most "car people" on the planet.
