He has a 30K 993 i want and i have a 5K Mini-Van he wants.

What would the bill of sale(s} look like and could it be done on one Bill of Sale?

IOW one transaction or two?

I would do 2 separate ones.. at least for the bill of sale. My experience is that you have to make it look as "normal" as possible or the folks at the DMV get really confused. So agree on a sales price for each, do separate ones, then if you have to pay sales tax, at least here in AR, we pay it on the difference between the two. They have a 30-day period after you sell a vehicle where you can buy another and the tax is reduced by the sale price of the previous one (not sure if I said that very clearly since it's 4 in the morning).

I would call your DMV and ask them. I don't believe there's a 30 day rule like Patrick mentions in TN, or if there is I've paid the DMV a lot more money than I should have.....

My gut tells me it would need to be on one Bill of Sale (like the dealers do it) but I may very well be mistaken.

If your DMV is like Washington then on a trade-in you pay tax on the difference so it is worth recording the trade-in on the reciept you show them.

Thanks all.

I hesitate to call the DMV because in the past i have gotten bad info that caused me a big hassle and cost me.

I'll try their Site and report back.

Keep the info coming.

Do them both ways so you're covered. As long as materially the details match up, you should be good.
