Default new airbox - funny sound???

fellas,

i recently changed the stock airbox and filter in my 1996 993TT w/29K miles to a K & N filter and a weltmeister performance airbox as shown in the link below.

http://www.automotion.com/productpag...1260#partStart

anyway, now i am getting a strange noise usually during moderate acceleration between 3,000 and 4,000 rpm. it sounds like a drawn out honking. i also get it sometimes when maintaining constant speed in 5th or 6th gear around 2,000 RPM. is this normal? is this the sound everyone is raving about?

btw, i also still have the factory original turbo bypass valves....

any advice?

On certain aftermarket airboxes, the air filter can collapse due to the lack of a front cover. Check to make sure everything is in the right place.

I know you don't have the Fabspeed, but the Weltmeister looks like the same thing. What happens during hard acceleration?

While many have had great luck with K&N filters for other applications (including me), I think the general consensus here is that the stock filter and housing is perfectly fine.

Being on a budget, I bought a stock airbox lid for my 993 from an eBay seller, then used a Dremel with a cutting wheel to make it like the Supercup lid. Basically, it's just an open frame to hold the air filter and clutch vent tube in place. I use it when the weather's fair (i.e. no rain) with the standard air filter. No real gain in HP, but it sounds very nice at wide open throttle.
