I need some tires - Bridgestone
Anyone have some 285/30/18 Bridgestone Potenza S-03 tires in good shape they want to sell? My fronts are in good shape, but I need some rears and they don't make 'em anymore.
The set on eBay doesn't have enough tread depth (although the price is right).

There's a new set of 285/30/18 Bridgestone RE050A tires on eBay for a good price. Would it be a mistake to pair those up with my front S-03's? I guess if I can't find some decent S-03's, I won't have much of a choice....
BTW, these are street only tires - I use V710's for track use.

Shannon,
RE050s. That's what I had to do as well. Like new S03s in the front and I wasn't ready to just toss them away. I got them at Discount Tire in Clairemont (PCA discount as well I believe).
I did a lot of searching here, talked to tire guys in various places, and this seemed to be the best way, short of the extremists that said "NEVER mix your tires". Wish I had their money... The tread patterns aren't an exact match, but not extremely different.
See ya next weekend at the Q?

Thanks guys. I guess I'll do it. $275 total (includes shipping) for two new rear RE050A's. Not a bad deal.
Yep; I'll be at the Q. See you there Keith. :-)

Just bought the RE050A's on ebay - $225 + shipping of $49. - 285-30/18's. If anyone's interested, it appears to be a pretty good deal (no affiliation): http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/285-3...em300191548555

Bridgestone Tires
I have a set of Bridgestone RE050A tires on my 993 and am not convinced they are the right choice. I have had them for 5K miles and am not convinced they are the best choice. They are not on the Porsche minimally acceptable list and are a different composite rubber than Michelin PS2 and I don't believe they grip as well. Certainly they are rated to last a bit longer but you loose in traction what you gain in longevity. My next set will be something different... Just my .02 worth.

Well, if I were buying tires for the track, I'd be a lot more picky (Kumho V710, Hoosier's or Toyo RA-1's), but for the street, I'm not as finicky. Ideally, I'd like to match the S-03's I have in the front with a new set for the rear, but I just couldn't find any so I wanted something that was somewhat similar w/ the front S-03's.

My shop had some SO3's the last time I spoke with them. I stocked up on the tire rack closeout this past summer and have another set (rears) sitting in the basement.
