Need help removing front control arms from ball joint carrier
Started removing control arms for bushing R&R and Im a little stuck. I got both inner bushings off and removed the eccentric and outer ball joint nut. The carrier that contains the ball joint is stuck to control arm. I started to pry the carrier away from the arm but its not budging. Since its aluminum, I stopped and decided to ask the RL community to weigh in. Any tips on removing the carrier from control arm would be appreciated.

Funny, I was at a friend's tonight and were were musing about the same thing. He also has a batch of Walrod's Finest and will be installing the bushings in the next few days. By looking at the ball joint casting and a-arm, I would think that the two simply separate once you've removed the fasteners.

They are 2 pieces - I was reading the excellence June 99 article (thanks cgfen!) on 964 front control arms which are the same design. They show it as 2 pieces...

Since it's aluminum, you use a plastic hammer instead of a steel one.
Mine were stuck, too. I have a nylon "prybar" shaped thing that's for interiors. I just jammed it in the seam and they popped apart.
I would think the main thing to worry about it is the ball joint. I wouldn't let the wishbone hang so the ball joint is at it's limit, then bang on it.

Thanks rally jon. I actually took another approach as you were typing - I threaded the nut back on the stud (27 below) and used a persuasion hammer on 27 to separate the arm from the carrier. (Nut to protect the threads). It came right out. Anyone doing this should try it (take off the wheel for more clearance). I would be hesitant to pry anything aluminum...
