Thanks but despite a few on this thread I don't think most people would keep a deposit on a car if they did not suffer a financial loss. I dont think I've ever sold a car where a buyer didnt tell me he wanted it only to change his mind. Things happen. That's life.
Perhaps this case is different though. It sounds as if the buyer gave $5k only to find his printer broke down and he was unable to print the fake cashier's check he intended to use to pay the balance.
