I swapped the rear Sumi tires like you described and got another 5-6K miles out of them before I hit the wear bars. Seemed to work just fine for DD.

I know quite a few guys who flip MPSC's to get more track life out of them. No ill effects and no poor handling issues.

My rear tires wore out VERY evenly, left-to-right, fwiw. My alignment must be good!

I always do that, which doubles my tire life at the rear. That's one of the reasons why I use the Bridgestone SO-2 tires, as the thread pattern is the same on both halves of the tire.

One thing you can all do to is to ask your dealers to put your rear camber to minimum spec, which will also help.

I flip my RA-1s, and also on an abrasive track like Pocono, I'll just switch left & right wheel/tire (essentially backwards pattern), as long as BONE DRY track. I don't play that game if at all wet.

[QUOTE=damon@tirerack.com;4965399]
On a directional tire it's fine to do. As long as you don't wait until the camber doesn't kill enough of the tread on the other side that it could affect the handling. That's why BMW does not recommend rotating - most people wait until it's too late and then the car handles irratically.
QUOTE]

Damon- How late is "too late"? At what point should one start to consider flipping? For example, is it at the point when the inner tread is a couple of 32's less than the outer tread, or is there some other guideline?

Thanks
-Jim
