Oh no, understood for sure. I posted some of the other items that followed. But yes, I'm in the due diligence process but for sure going in this direction. Seriously, no sooner than I completed the M3 (minus the turbo), I removed all the mods - for this! I'm going to be sorting whether to maintain NA or go FI, hence the post. I appreciate the input. When I decide and source it, I'll be posting the progress. The car will go to immediate mod-phase. Thanks for the input.

I suggest you PM atan888 as he is having built a protomotive engine that will pump out 6 to 700 HP on pump gas in his yellow big bird.
If you want that much horsepower, you'd be better off taking a WB instead of NB. You'll need all the rubber available to translate that much power.
One thing you don't seem to take in consideration is that once you buy a 30K car and spend another 20K on engine, you'll have to spend another 15K on suspension, brakes and and and cause after-all, you are buying a 12 year old car.
Again, ask atan888 cause he has been down this road quite a few times and all of his rides are more than amazing.

Good advice. I just spent $40k in mods (last 1.5 years) on a 2002 E46 M3 and nearly pulled the trigger on a HPF 750 Turbo for $23k. The car stock w/45k miles is worth ~$30k. I won't be able to swing that much HP on the Porsche, but the 400-500 range is my target. The only negative for me with the WB is AWD unless I go to a 993S and they're at more than I want to spend. Basically sell my M3 and use that for the source car, then take my mod funds for what I was using for the HPF turbo plus the funds I got from the mods I removed. At least that's what I told my wife.

I have a car very similar to what you are describing its a 95 c2 ruf btr. Sunroof delete rear wheel drive. It is crazy fast, and I am crazy over this car. It is faster than the tts and has more torque.

You can make an AWD in a RWD in no time for free or you can make the real conversion for just over 1.5K. Do a search it has been discussed quite a few times and a few here have done it.

If you've got the $$ to throw around that's great. I wanted a fun project that didn't break the bank so I built my Turbo E30 BMW. I've got around 15K into the entire car. 306HP and 299Ft/# at the wheels. GC coilovers, Koni adjustables and a UUC big brake kit. Car weighs 2722#'s and it is VERY fast. 2nd gear will break loose the 225/40-17 Toyo T1R's. I did a lot of mods to the car other than these.
My point is that modding the 993 on this side of the Atlantic will be very expensive and the results may not prove cost effective. If you are specifically looking to have the baddest 993 on the block then it's an emotional decision.... go for it. If you want a fast toy for the track and street you can keep the 993 stock (and appreciating) and mod up something cheap and fun.
Plus it is really fun blowing off a $100K car with an '87 BMW!!

I hear you, but if I wanted the fastest car on the block I wouldn't have taken the mods off my E46 M3 and pulled the trigger on HPF Stg. II - 750 HP - breaks them loose in 3rd-4th gear and insane fast. BTW - huge fan here of the E30 M3!
I'm also looking for a keeper. The 993 to me is the perfect Porsche.

Hey, I like that idea! I'd like to go down the same route with my car, a '95 with RS-look. I think I'll be doing some research on Protomotive and Turbo Kraft. I considered supercharging but TPC's 7th/8th injector solution is too half-a$$ed for me, so I need to investigate this turbo option.

If you want the information/pricee sheet I have PM me your email address and I'll send you the PDF. I absolutely love your car. It's one of them that made me want the RS conversion. I now only not regret doing this sooner and saving what I spent on the M3. Eh, that's the way it goes!

First of all, please don't turbo a non-turbo 993. You are looking at a world of pain and suffering. Secondly, I would recommend finding a 993 TT for sale and drive it. The AWD system on it is actually very nice and for getting power to the ground, you can't beat it. I have built a couple of 993 TT and it is relatively cheap to get them north of 500 and close to 600 hp while keeping them totally street legal. I'm talking in the $15k range. All it takes really is a pair of turbos with stiffer wastegate springs and a computer flash and poof, 530-550 hp. Toss in a cat delete or 100-cell cats with high flow exhaust, turn the key and profit.
This is why no one bought the turbo S when they were offered. I believe there was a 40k price difference between the S and non-S but with only 15k into the non-S, you could smoke an S.
It just sounds like you want some serious juice and a car you can take out on the track to have some fun with on your spare time. Your only distaste for the TT is the AWD which is based on owning an Audi with AWD, not a Porsche.
So please, go drive one, see how it feels before you make your choice. Your RS idea isn't bad, but comparing a built up 3.8 vs a built up TT is really apples and oranges in both the way it feels and the money and time you are going to have to put into it.
I have driven and built things very close or exactly like what you are talking about and without a doubt, there is still no street car that I have build that puts a bigger smile on my face then a built up 993 TT, hands down.

Having to pay for a Porsche shop build any modded 993 (NA or TT) will be cost prohibitive. My setup was affordable because I was able to do all of the work myself. This includes the fab work, wiring, and tuning of the aftermarket ECU. As everybody knows, without a properly tuned ECU the drivability and reliability will be horrible. So whatever you do, DO NOT skimp in that area. I am always thinking about what to do with the car next, unfortunately my work schedule has kept me from doing much with the car lately save for driving it and enjoying it. Here are a few pictures from just before the snow hit:

My setup is built to produce much more power then I am currently making. So I would still like to build the motor, turn the boost up a bit, and make the power numbers that this setup was built to support. The nice thing about larger single turbos is how easily they make power per lb of boost.
gonz911, what is your ultimate horsepower goal for the car? A 1995 is the right place to start for a setup like this since it uses the 55 pin ECU (easy to make a jumper harness), is not OBDII, and has the non-vram intake mani. I may be willing to build another like mine, or maybe even unload it for the right price if I find something else that peaks my interest. Shoot me a PM and we can talk.
