Talking HID lights installed - HUGE upgrade!

Best $150 bucks I've spent on the car so far. What a difference it makes in the amount of light around the car. I turned on the high beams and I really can't tell much difference. I need to upgrade to the bright white lights bulbs for the fog lights next, they look really dull and yellow in comparison. I already moved the Sylvania bright white H1 bulbs from the projectors to the high beam headlamp position. I think it does help keep the color closer to the HIDs. In case you are wondering what digital HID set I installed, here is the link - no affiliation, etc. http://www.dxhid.com/

Thanks to everyone for the information on installing the kit inside the headlamp case. This link was the best for information - https://rennlist.com/forums/993-forum/336973-aftermarket-hids.html
As always, this place rocks

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!!

Greg,

I'm getting ready to do this myself. How long did it take you?

Thanks,

John

Congrats...HID's make a night and day difference. Did you end up hiding the ballasts in the light buckets?
PM sent.

Thanks - the entire kit is inside the headlight assembly. Looks stock from the outside and retains all of the plug and play features of the standard car. Easy to reverse in the event of a HID failure as well. Lots of details from other rennlisters in the previously identified post.

Sounds like a great mod.

How is the light pattern? What did you do about adjusting the beam height?

Light pattern appears to be the same, just more full/brighter than the standard hallogen bulb. Adjusting the beam height is no different than adjusting the normal headlight assembly. The lens is the same so you just use an allen wrench to adjust up/down and left/right per the level bubble guage and the angle gauge in the headlight assembly. Hope this helps.

HID lighting is a great upgrade for our cars. I did the headlights years ago and I am now considering a HID upgrade for my Turbo S fogs

Has anyone retrofitted the fog lights with HID projectors?

Yes - I was planning to use a set of Hella HID Micro DE lamps for the upgrade, however, this set is currently listed on Ebay for $450. So I may retrofit another set of Hella projectors with a HID kit for a better fog beam pattern and lower cost.

Let me know if you have any other suggestions...

Click on the new years sale - looks like the price went to $169. The kit I got is the Exes xenon digital HID kit. I got H1 bulbs (standard for our car) and 4500K color. It puts out a really nice white color. I know there are other kits on Ebay you can do searches for them on rennlist. Other popular kit seems to be vertex - no affiliation, etc. I went with the digital kit because the balasts are smaller and they fit better in the headlight assembly. Hope this helps.

I put Exes in mine too. Paid $149. The wiring is a piece of cake. The bulb diameters were just a hair larger than the stock bulb so I had to do some light filing with a rat tail file. Ballast fits inside the housing without a problem. I also took the lens off and cleaned it. I think I may replace them both since they are somewhat pitted on the outside. And just got done aiming them tonight. I almost feel like I'm somewhat of an expert on the 993 headlight now! Very nice upgrade.

I had to do some minor filing to get the bulbs to fit too. I thought maybe it was just my headlights being slightly off. Nice to know that someone else needed to file the aluminum down just a bit. It was not much filing and certainly doesn't effect the headlight assembly at all. I will eventually replace the exterior glass due to pitting too, but that can wait for now.
