Default Shift **** question

I just changed the factory leather shift **** in my tt for a factory Alu shifter out of a C2S. The factory shifter clips in place via a spring clip over a rectangular rubber grommet on the shift lever. The new C2S shift **** uses a 5mm allen head set screw to fit. I noticed though that the C2S shift **** cannot seat as low on the shift lever as the leather ****, because the lever has a flare on it that prevents the C2S **** from fully seating. I am thinking of grinding these off. Any thoughts?

Why not leave it in the slightly higher position? The RUF **** sits even higher...

The higher position means the shift **** travel is even longer than stock now. Almost feels like pulling a slot in Vegas

My Alu shift **** did the same at first. That last 3/4"-1" seems to be very snug. Make sure the allen bolt is fully backed out and then give it a strong, firm push to seat all the way down.

The **** head itself is slightly thicker I think but mine slides all of the way on.

Gives a good explanation to the term "money shift".

Yes, Miata it ain't. Even with a short shifter.

Update - I used a Dremel to grind off the 2 tabs that were preventing the shift **** from seating all the way down. It is now back down to the stock height and throw. Simple enough to do, I made a hole in a trash bag and slid it over the shift lever so I could grind away without filling the car with debris. The bag acted as an "isolation chamber" for me to grind in. Almost no mess at all.
