Do most of you guys have friends who own 993's that you regularly keep in touch with by phone, or do the majority of you not have any such phone contact and are simply content to PM someone and log onto Rennlist? Just curious...
I only call 2 people from time to time when I have a Porsche question or just want to rap about some 993 related situation. For my BMW though, I only log onto bimmerboard but have no friends or aquaintances outside of the actual forum. I've never been to any BMW event but have been to many Porsche events. BMW events hold no interest for me at all. It's more just transportation to me (albeit nice transportation - 2001 740i sport), while 993 ownership makes me feel more like I'm part of a swank, special, secret society!
As most of you know, I'm moving to a new house in 5 days and they're going to redo the garage 5 days after I move in. I can't wait... I've always wanted a beautiful epoxy floor. They're going to paint the walls Dove White. I haven't seen one but 911 in my whole community of about 500 homes yet, a guy with a new, blue 997 TT that he parks out on the street. He actually lives on the entire other side of the community, but one day I'm going to introduce myself and invite him to our local Rennlist Meet and Drive we have twice a year.
I'm excited to see my 993 in the new garage. It'll really complete the house.
Cheers,
Steve R

Steve,
Congrats again on the house - pictures of the 993 in the new garage are mandatory!
I stay in touch with 4 or 5 Rennlisters - whether to talk 993 or simply catch up. It helps knowing there are others with the same affliction

I have one friend that I converse with via email on a regular basis about Porsches, fine wines and life. We get together at least once a year. He and I go back 12 years and is the one that got me into Porsches in the first place. He turned wrenches during his college years for a SoCal Porsche shop and has owned a '88 Turbo Look, '87 930, '73 911S (should have never sold that one) and currently a '93 964 RS America. He steered me into the 993 after I was set to leave my '98 M3 for a 996. Friends don't let friends drive water pumpers. Thanks, R!

I talk to Andreas on a regular basis but, usually, it's to see if any of his screws have drifted from a perpendicular orientation, if he's finished sterilizing his pedals or how the Armor-All'd brake pads are working out.
Seriously, in addition to two or three 993 'listers, I usually talk to a few 964 board members about ways to drive faster, as opposed to just discussing 993-specific questions.

Here in Vancouver we have a pretty good group of 993 friendship . some are about track or Auto-X , others is touring and concours but everyone is about keeping a tip-top running 993 . Mostly the 993 circle is around Mike J.`s home shop.
We`ve regular Bar-B-Qs or lunch get togethers and some of the guys are from
Seattle area and also Vancouver Island (right Bret ? ).
The other big portion of my Porsche time is with the PCA region club here .
So I feel lucky to be a Porshe nut here .
Cheers Guy

I don't want to be friends with any of you! You are all bad influences and I will blame each and everyone of you when my wife divorces me. Ok, seriously Dave (007) and I have been communicating via email and phone as we are basically building the same DE cars. Also, Glen (ninjabones) and I have been communicating via PM and we will definitely be running into each other at track events. I'm sure we will learn a lot from one another as we both are transitioning from C4's to C2's. Most of my close friends have a different mix of cars that they track ; 996 TT's, Subi STI's, and M3's. Most of the enjoyment from this expensive hobby is spending time with people just as sick as me. Sort of makes me feel sane..
In just a short time back on Rennlist, I have learned so much about 993's as everyone here is very helpful and willing to take the time to answer many questions.

While it would be totally incorrect, one could describe me as a lurking parasite addicted to spending money on a 10-year old car that was purchased as a daily driver. As a result of insidious help from a number or RLers I have been trapped on the SS. Can't sing or dance or paint or play, so I guess this is a creative outlet. Hell, it even costs more than hcokey ice time! In any event, many mods with a LOT of help from this forum on DIY and purchase, and so far haven't met anyone. Had several offers of personal help, though and I am appreciative of the spirit of this forum.
