Default Convertible motor recall - why?

My 1997 cab's top works fine, albeit there is a slight contact sound over bumps due to a little free play arounbd the door posts. My question is - what is the motor recall supposed to solve? The new motors seem to have some metal quality issues themselves. In short, why fix it if it ain't broke?

If you're referring to the latching motors, the drive spindle was too small (IIRC) and could break, thereby unlatching the front of the top. I don't think the top could come detached completely, but it could startle the driver. Thus, recall.

But the newmotors had a quality control or pot metal issue with the gears I understand, raising the question of whether it is worthwhile to make the swap. Any insight or statictics on probability for that?

I think all of us just did the recall--I know I did. Sorry I don't have anything more.
