The One and Only 911 (993) – 25 Hours of Thunderhill
X-post from the Racing forum for you 993 race fans...
It’s finally that time of year again – the first weekend of December and the 25 Hours of Thunderhill.
This year I will be driving with the team from Pacific Power Motorsports in their Porsche 993 with a big 4.0 liter motor!
Thursday we will test and practice, Friday we have more testing and then qualifying in the dark at 5:15 pm. Saturday the race starts at 11:00 am and runs for 25 straight hours - 14+ in the dark.
Checking the updated entry list this morning I discovered that we are now the ONLY Porsche 911 in the race (there are 2 ½ 944’s). Flying Lizard Motorsports was registered with their RSR, but they have apparently dropped out.
This is an interesting development – 71 cars on the starting grid and only one 911. 911’s have totally dominated the first four 25 Hours of Thunderhill races.
Porsche 911’s in the 25 Hours of Thunderhill
2003 1st, 2nd, 3rd overall
2004 1st, 2nd overall
2005 1st overall
2006 1st, 2nd overall
We have created a live team blog so everyone can track our progress and support the ONE AND ONLY 911!

Nice to see there's at least one! Alas, you can't even break into my garage up there for spares, as only the SM and sports racers are up there.........
Never talked to Masuo (& co) after last years, but an overall win and a couple of other podiums seemed to have left them exhausted without much of anything to show for it. Phenomenal accomplishment nonetheless.
I posted something over on the racing list's thread about a DP that showed up to test at 6pm last August while I was working on the cars in the garage. Track totally deserted......just waiting for the guy to fall off and have to go with his crew to extract him. Must have gotten the data they came for.
There's also a Norma sports racer with, I think, an Audi engine running E85. Talked to that guy another time I was testing this fall. Gonna be lots of rolling chicanes out there........

Many talk, but only one walks the walk.
Thanks for the link to your blog. If your team needs another able-bodied man, let me know. I'd love an excuse to drive up to Willows this weekend!

Thanks guys!
Rich, can you introduce me to your avatar?
No wait, I'm happily married.
Dan, I'm not running the team, but you're welcome to come up and hang out. The pre race festivities and the start are worth the drive. Be there by 10 am Sat.

That's all the excuse I need! I'll finally get to use the night-vision feature on my camcorder! I'll be leaving Fremont @ 6:30AM Sat. Anyone else going? There's about 100 of us 993ers in NorCal, I hope to see some others there.
