Visually, I prefer the look of the later third brake light, but having the basket handle is kind of a badge of honor. It shows off the unique '95-ness of the car.

Does anyone have a picture of the decklid with the basket handle removed and the holes filled in. I'm considering getting mine removed but I'm curious how well a body shop can fill the holes.

I'm July, '95 build, no basket handle, and all the '96 mods except varioram. Anyone know when they switched to '96 production? I'm guessing I must be one of the last cars. VIN ends in 4088...

Ha!! speaking of extra character, here's a character added TO the handle. That's just wrong, so wrong, but hopefully you'll see the joke in it.

I believe I have one of the last 95 C4 builds (according to the updated build date link)

July 95, no basket handle.

Maybe a little off topic, by my all time favorite 3rd brake light was from the '87 911 turbo. I think it was called the "cyclops". It reminds me of the Martian space craft in the original War of the Worlds.

I don't have pictures but my basket handle was removed by the PO to put a turbo wing.
When I got the car, I removed the turbo wing.
I wanted to put the basket handle back but I could not figure where those screws would go... Then I realized the holes had been filled. You can't tell there were holes in there.

The only marks I have are dents left by the turbo wing.

As I have said in the past, I kind of like my basket handle.

How difficult is to remove the basket handle, say to repair/replace the lights?

My understanding about the Basket Handle on the coup's was that Porsche had to have DOT approval to ship the cars, they had it for the cab but not the coup so they put the handle on the coup for the first part of the shipment. Just what I have herd!

coleman did a 'diy' a while back where he replaced his basket handle & did the unit above the rear window... he also replaced the lights w/ a leds so the red was much more vibrant & he said it was cheaper than using factory replacements. had to solder bulbs in place if i recall.
