If it's not Part A and Part B it's not epoxy.

Steve,

My first garage epoxy paint lifted badly. It was acid etched and painted with Benjamim-Moore 2 part epoxy. The second time around we scuffed the concrete with a floor sander and used Griots epoxy paint. I am convinced the scuffing made all the difference, but the Griots paint does appear to be a harder product and tougher than the BM. The Griots is not lifting at all - it's a great product. I will offer that if you only want to do it once....scuff the concrete and use Griots epoxy - you will not have any problems. Here are a couple of pictures:

This is Griots tan:

Great advice to do the scuffing and the Griot's Garage epoxy. I'll tell my paint guy that we have to do it this way.

Great looking garage and cars. Wish I had the resources to do the wood accents and rugs.

Steve,

You will be very pleased with the Griots. The last thing you want is the paint to start lifting in the first year (which is what happened to me) and suddenly the great paint job looks horrible. Acid etching is supposed to "rough up" the concrete, but it's a marginal technique. A floor sander with a rough grit sandpaper really "roughs it up good", so the paint bonds well. You can always add wood accents, etc. later - especially if you're not having to spend money to repaint.

Make sure you pick up every last bit of dust and debris if you sand-

I did my floor about 6 years ago when we bought the house. I did both bays of a 2 car garage with Home Depot epoxy paint. I did not clean the floor with anything other than water, as the floor was brand new and unstained. I did not do the flakes, as I knew they would not be even and would be tough to clean. Instead, I left it completely smooth, shiny grey. I clean it with fantastic and a rag once a month - looks like new!

except for one thing. You guessed it. Tire lift off. BUT..here is the interesting thing.

The side of the garage that gets the 993 is perfect. 1 coat in 6 years, and not a single issue. The side of the garage that gets my wife's Honda Odyssey is ruined! I've put down 4 coats in 6 years - still ruined. Heavy car, hot tires, and a driver who insists on turning the wheels when the car isn't moving does the floor in.

Just my $0.02.

Q - How do you avoid lift off?

A - Not travel into space?

Lift off... not a term I'm familiar with here, but it sounds like the epoxy literally lifts up and gets ruined from poor application, hot tires (never heard of that term either before, other than on the track) and turning your wheel alot in the garage?

Epoxy sounds like a recipe for dissapointment, but I'm doing it anyway.

I am in the flooring business and have come across some unbelievable cat peed homes. A saturated carpet is one the worst smells on the planet.

Yeah, very true. I wouldn't have wanted to be the guy driving the panel van back from our house to the dump with it completely filled up with the cat peed carpet from our house! It smelled so bad you'd gag as soon as you opened the door to the van.

Glad I'm not in that part of the floor covering business!

It's not-if it's done correctly-you will not get lift off regardless of vehicle-tires, turning in place, etc. (Sorry -Aaron).
