Hi,
I will have to remove the wheels and keep my car on the Jack Stands during the winter. I know this is not recomended, but due to security reasons .... unsafe garage so its less likely that someone will try to steal the car again ;(

Is this a bad idea or ? Any tips are welcome... I will try to get AC flat top jack stands as recommended by many of you.

Why is it not recommended?? I have always stored my cars (in my garage) on jack stands with the wheels off for winter.

Keep the wheels on instead but get a good chain!
Take away the ecu, put in a faulty fuse for the fuel pump etc etc..

Taking away the wheels you might lose those expensive brakes now that
they are easy accessible

My car if you disconnect the battery or use the cutt off switch the annoying exclamation point(!) light turns on and I have to take it to the mechanic to clear the code. Does this happen to anyone else? I have a 1995 993.

I take it the "clear warning" button isn't working on your center consol?

I see no problem with your idea. The AC stands are your best solution - as the flat-topped posts offer a very stable base for the four lift points under the 993.

I would rather remove the DME Relay and Battery than remove the wheels.

The old wives tale I heard about this was that dampers that are at full droop, with the entire unsprung weight of the corner plus spring pressure on them at that position, can suffer damage, corrode in place or otherwise "lock up" over time.

Don't know if it's true, or maybe was but isn't anymore.

The suspension (shocks especially) are not designed to be left fully extended for long periods of time. Also, depending on your specific suspension installed (if you have ROW springs with HD shocks), you will most likely be unseating the springs at the top perch. This isn't an issue, unless you fail to seat it properly again in the spring (it fits within a receiving slot on the top perch and bottom perch).

Agree with the other poster -- if 'security' is an issue with you - find a new garage - or if THAT is not an option -- BEEF up both the security AND the surveillance.
During the day, mine has the driveblock on - but I also have TWO sets of chains on her. One set around the steering wheel and the brake-pedal - and the other wrapped around the rear suspension and thru' a wheel.
These particular chains (ALMAX) *cannot* be bolt-cropped.
I also shut off all electricity to the garage when I am not in there - to prevent any thieves from using the juice to drive a 'power-tool'.
I also have (hidden) a Carrera-cam' that keeps an eye on things that are happening around my neck-of-the-woods -- that I can 'review' that evening after work. (In that way I can spot someone who may be casing the joint.)
Yep, yep, call me paranoid -- but security is all about 'layering'.
To prevent flat-spots, I personally drive the car up onto an old set of sofa-cushions. Hey, it works!

P.S. I imported these chains and padlocks from England 2+ years ago. I figured, since they're European, that the scumbags, thus, wouldn't have had any 'time' on the particular model/type.
