Others have bought a foam or urithane cord and stuffed it in all alkong the rubber seal, wouldnt that be easier?
That "tube" is really a cord. I believe one fits it in between as much of the windshield and body as possible. The OP in the thread I linked to was able to fit double-thickness in some places.

You can purchase a similar type cord from home depot. I did that about two months ago and the squeaks are 95% gone.

Lanolin: get some at the drug store. warm the tube and apply as with Pedro.
Lanolin is a most amazing substance, [google it]compeltely removable unlike silicones, never dries out, and wont harm rubber or other organic compounds.
its water dispersant, dielectric, prvents crevice corrosion and dissimilar metal corrosion[ sailors have used it for millenia, its impervious to salt water]
we use it on stainless fittings into aluminum mast structures.

Good point: lanolin is the base of comercially available Fluid Film (TM) .... which I use on everything susceptible to corrosion: never thought about using it on the windshield gasket .... but may give it a shot with an aresol can ...
