Default Yellowing stone guards

My first task was to remove the old, yellowing stone guards. It was easier than I imagined. Took me 5 minutes each side. I believe they were replaced before and made this removal fairly painless. What a difference on white!

Looks good, but are you putting new ones on?

I suggested black to accent the trim.

I removed mine about 3 years ago when they turned yellow, and never replaced them. No regrets; I actually like it better without them.

when i removed mine, they were yellowed and cracking. but my car is black, so the yellowing didn't show. i would replace them because mine were pretty nicked up, and i'm sure they saved the paint. once the old ones are off, applying new ones is pretty easy.

I believe you can get them in white so they won't yellow up on you.

1. Purchase 3m adhesive cleaner and a cotton cloth
2. Pull car in garage with good lighting
3. Peel top corner of stone guard and pull slowly until entire stone guard is off of fender. (It seemed easier to pull down.)
4. Once stone guard is removed, spray a generous amount of 3m product on adhesive
5. Allow product to sit for 1 minute to penetrate adhesive.
6. Take the cloth and rub off adhesive. Don't be afraid to apply pressure.
7. Apply more product until the adhesive is completely off fender.
8. Oh, don't forget to order new stone guards. Usually takes a couple days to arrive from local dealer.

Makes a huge difference in appearance. The first thing my wife said when I showed her the car was, " what the heck are those yellow decals on the fenders!"

Well the car looks so much better now. All I need to do is figure out why the car won't start!! Cranks strong, but engine will not fire up. It happen once in the parking lot in the morning. Gave it a second crank and it fired up. Parked in garage, removed stone guards, sat for about an hour and will not start ever since. Prior owner had similiar problem about a month ago. He replaced DME which did not solve problem. Took it to an indy where they claim to have noticed a couple of spliced connections while tracking lines for crank position sensor. Checked connections-vehicle started. I guess the first thing to do is check those connections again.

Ok, off topic.....how do you like your R class? Im thinking about buying my wife an R500 a year or so old. I had an Ml 430 and hated the build quality and traded it in on an X5. I heard that the R class was better. Is yours a 350 or a 500? anyway, I guess I could have done this in a PM but it is too late now
