I saw a 993 Project Car, worth it???
Ok so there is a california owned 993 that has 33K miles on it. The car was a theft recovery and has no motor or transmission. So this would be a great project car for someone like me who wants to rebuild a motor. He is asking 13K, seems high to me but I am no expert. What do you think? It seems I would probably be dumping over 25K into the car to get a motor and tranny so it may not be worth it. You tell me Thanks!!!

I looked into cars like this but what turned me off about such a project is these cars carry a salvage or other title.
There is an engine and trans available here on Rennlist.

I could care less about a theft recovery, especially if I am going to keep the car for 5+ years. Selling it wont be a problem since I document everything I do with hundreds of photos and stuff. I DO HOWEVER think paying 13 thousand dollars for a car with no engine or transmission sounds a little crazy.

I would agree. If you spent $13K for the car and another $15k for the engine/tranny, you are in for $28k on a salvage title before you have even done any mods. Unless it is a well sorted car with a lot of $$ sunk in to mods that you would want anyways, it doesn't sound too cost effective. You are probably better off buying a car with a clean title, but more mileage, for less money.

yea exactly my thoughts. Depending on how much this person who is on the forums wants for his tranny and motor I would make that guy an offer. Doubt he would be too happy with 9K haha. What I am wondering is how he has the car after a theft recovery. He probably sold the motor and tranny and kept the salvaged title on the car to make money on the motor/tranny combo. An engine with only 33K miles could probably go for a lot, then he figures he can find some sap to but his salvaged car and make some money off of it.

Contact Mike at mike@automotionky.com for the engine and trans.
Never mind, engine and trans is sold.

The motor and tranny is about the same price as you can get for a salvage 993 after you finish the project. There won't be any gain for your efforts.

I wish I had a dollar for every time I said that. At some point, I always sell a car to look for a new adventure.
You can document all you want, the simple fact is the title type will not change, and people shy away from such cars irregardless why it carried a salvage or other title. Some insurance companies will not insure cars like this. Some loan institutions will not lend on cars like this.
Just sayin'..

The first question I always have is "why"? Unless you're intimately familiar with the car, and have multiple extras sitting around......where are you going to find all the little "this and that". I wouldn't touch a project like that anymore, and I've got 3 3.6's, a 6 speed and two 5 speeds sitting around.
Unless it were a cab, of course (hi Chris!).........ha

I agree with Race911.
There are things that are good ideas.
There are things that seem like a good idea at the time.
This one you aren't even sure if its a good idea at the time.
I'd stay away.
