Default OT: Eagle one tire gel

Ok. Was thinking if I should post this or not. It should be on a detailing thread but my experience was bad so i'll just put in my .02.

Used Eagle One's tire gel this weekend with the applicator. What a MESS!! For anyone out there thinking of using it be careful. I might have put on a little to much at first but even after wiping it off the tires, as much as i could it still flung s@#$ all over the car. Problem is once it was on the car it was hell getting it off. It was like paste on the paint. The smallest amount was hard removing. Would never use it again.

Biggest problem is quantity. If you get too much on, it's hell to remove. I use a stiff disposable open cell sponge and about 1-2cc of gel per tire. Use the sponge to really scrub it into the sidewall, getting it into the styling details and letters so it looks even. It's amazing how far a tiny bit goes, and there's very little to wipe off at the end. End result is tires that look clean and black, but not shiny at all.

I'll admit I probably used to much but even after wiping off (as hard as I could) it still made a mess. You're right looking back I should have used just used a smaller amount. That's some thick stuff. Just posting so someone doesn't make the same mistake. It will ruin your day if it happens to you. Did mine. Had to re-wash the car.

isn't it a silicone gel? Anything like that will turn into a huge mess. I find a small amount of Armorall sprayed on a rag, then applied right after washing works best.

My new favorite dressing is 303 Aerospace Protectant. I picked it up at the local Boaters World and its great. Also should be safe if any gets on the wheels.

I hate armor all. On anything.

Meguiars vinyl & rubber seems to do the best on tires.

I love this stuff!! It leaves more of a satin finish. Not greasy at all.

I have to agree with the armor all statement but at least if gets on the paint it can be easily wiped off. Very different animal with this stuff.

Need to try this stuff. Sounds good.

303 is absolutely the best dressing for vinyl and tires available.

I got turned on to Meguiar's Endurance back on bimmerfroums. Don't know how it compares to 303, but I've been pleased and it's available everywhere.

Hi,
Have used Meguiar's Endurance too -- you have to use this 'gel' v. sparingly or else it takes DAYS to 'cure' to the point where it is no longer 'sticky'. NOT the type of 'tire dressing' I would use for a concours/car-show!
Having switched to 303-aerospace-protectant 2+ years ago -- I, literally, don't leave home without it.

I guess everyone has their own magic stuff, but I like to use Lexol Vinylex on my tires and interior. Leaves a nice matte black finish. Never tried 303 though, might have to some time given the feedback here.

FWIW: The Streather book admonishes all 993 owners to NEVER apply any sort of silicone-based product on or near their cars.
