Scott - I just looked at this thread and those pictures, stopped everything, and ordered an Amerex extinguisher for the 356!!! After some searching, it looks like www.safedrives.com has the best prices on the extinguishers. I just ordered the 1.4 lb. chrome one for the 356. They don't carry brackets.

I keep the one in the 993 in the front trunk. I figure any fire will start in the back, so I'll be able to get to it. Now that I carry them, I've was able to help another driver who's car caught fire on the highway save their car. As a side note, just hand them the extinguisher, and show them how to work it. Don't get hurt trying to save someone else's POS unless there's danger to someone inside. These fires grow FAST.

Default Let it burn (As long as I am not inside!)

Damn...what a horror story about the burning car with all the ammo, propane, dogs, kids.... I do have a halon extinguisher in the 993, and a monster fire bottle in my tow vehicle as well as the same size in the barn and one in my garage off the kitchen. For the Prius, nothing...let it burn. I need a new one anyway!

Do you happen to have any pics of the Stableenergies bracket installed in the car? Also, do you know if it works/attaches just the same to OEM 996 GT3 sport seats (not fixed back style) as it does to OEM 993 seats? I have those in the black cab.

Scott,
I have not attached the bracket yet but can attest to its construction - very stout and nicely powder coated. My understanding is that the bracket attaches to the seat using the seat motor points, thus allowing the extinguisher to move with the seat. I've seen the BK mount in person - it keeps the extinguisher in a fixed position.
I'll post pictures once it's installed.

I want a mount that keeps it tucked back at the seat. The one on Tony's car sticks out too far and the wifey would get cranky about it!

I still have the floor mounted extinguisher that came from the factory with my 1995 993 RS CS, as far as I can tell it is the same as the one available for the 996/7 GT3 RS cars...I am sure you could pick one up direct from Porsche.

Is there a way/space to mount an extinguisher under the dash above the passenger footwell. I would be nice to have one but for a daily driver but having it right in front of the passenger seat looks a bit too "racer-ish" ;(

I have fire extinguishers in all the cars and the truck. Nothing fancy--2.5 lb B/C bottles from the box store mounted metal to metal.

My idiot insurance company told me that a fire extinguisher in the car is proof that the car is used in speed contests (WTF???) as part of a claim denial.

I couldn't make this one up.

SInce I have a fire extinguisher under the kitchen sink, I guess they would deny a home owners claim since I operate the food disposal in speed contests, huh?
