Default Side Parking Lights

Reading Alan993S's recent post about an interior cabin light being left on overnight, it got me thinking about the side marker parking lights, and how long the battery will last with those on (you know, when you put the turn signal lever to the left or right with the car off).

But I think a far more interesting question is this: do you use them, and under what circumstances?

I first saw them some time in the early '80s I think it was, on a 911 parked on the street outside of a restaurant. At first I thought the guy left his parking lights on, then when I saw that only the street-side lights were on, I immediately understood what was going on. Very cool, I thought. I don't often park like that at night, and I don't want to draw attention, so I never use this feature. Do you?

I used to use them with my SC when I lived in London in the '90's and had to park in some odd places. They would be on for at least 12 hours sometimes and the car would start up again without a problem.

Use it all the time when I go to friends' houses and I have to park on dark streets. great converstation starter - someone always comes back in and tells you your lights are on...

I am in the same category. It seems that I learn something new all the time here on RL. What a great place!

I use them during daytime whilst driving down the highway. I replaced them by LED's (white). So people see me coming in their rear-view mirror. It's not as aggressive when using the headlights, so I use them occasionally. But now I think of it, I guess in Europe we don't have those side parking lights, so I'm talking about the front parking lights. I could be wrong 'though.

I rarely use them but on some occasions if I have to park to a odd place and it's dark, I do it. And mostly because it's cool.

I never use them I guess mainly because I don't park the car in a unlit area. I first learned about this feature on my dad's 1971 220 Mercedes.
