Default Poll:Have you had to replace a/c evaporator?

If so,What was the diagnosis that led to the replacement, and if other components of the a/c were defective and replaced before the evap. was.
Pls indicate # of miles and years on car.I really appreciate any info
that you can provide from personal experience on this matter. Thanks and regards.

Joseph

I bought my car in 4/05 with 23k on the clock. Not long before I purchased, the evaporator had been replaced according to the records I received. Don't think anything else had been replaced. Car had been in Orlando from new til when I purchased fwiw

Joseph,

Having been on RL for a few years, I have read almost every a/c post on the 993 Forum. I had a chronic problem with my '97 C2's a/c for several years after purchasing it, so I read all the posts. From all that I've read, evaporator replacement is quite rare. Problems with the a/c and poor cooling are not however.

Do you have a particular problem with your a/c? There are some very helpful guys here that know the systems well. Evap replacement rarely comes up as a fix.

Hey, I thought there would be a poll? I was promised a poll!!!

Yes, mine was replaced by the PO somewhere around 70K miles IIRC. It is a 1995 C2 with 105K on the odomometer. There have not been any other AC component issues.
Hope that helps.

Default Evaporator

Mine was replaced at around 70K - it's an expensive job due to the inaccessibility, so obviously not one to be undertaken lightly.

Sure enough did mine 2 months ago. One of the factory welds on the evap was craked causing a freon leak. Fixed it and now have ice cold AC

Mine was found to be leaking at about 50,000kms and had it replaced. Working fine from that point onwards...about a year ago.

Replaced mine last summer when I purchased the car. It had at the time 66K miles. Did it myself from the DYI from Robin's site (thank you Robin). Used an after market evaporator...working great now.

I had to replace mine at 42K, it was a weld at the copper tubing that failed. PITA to replace because of the location behind the dash.
