I use a V1 and a Escort Laser Shifter. I don't speed over the crest of hills, and I slow going under overpasses. I also watch my mirrors. Both these aids have saved me several times, but common sense and a good pair of eyes is your best weapon against Johny Law.

Never said I never exceed the speed limit. I just pay my occasional ticket without bitching.

Never said tickest were ALWAYS appropriate.

If you admit to speeding, then complain about getting caught--well go cry somewhere else.

The last two tickets I got were when there was no one else around me to possibly hurt. One was in the desert, in Valley of Fire, NV. 72 in a 50 zone, where I had no idea what the speed limit was, as there were few if any signs and absolutely no other cars. The next one was on my bike, mentioned previously. I guess my speed differential was infinite, as there were no other cars around besides the cops looking for money.
I didn't say that was unsafe. Now, when you are the only one on the road, you can't just run WFO. You still have to be on the lookout for speedtraps. Guess you've figured that out by now. After many years of schooling, I finally got a job, and a car that could speed. I would drive I64 between C'ville and Richmond at 5:30 AM. No cars = no cops. NOT! I visitied traffic court in Albemarle, Louisa, Goochland, Chesterfield, Sussex and Greensville Counties!

Exactly. I'm pretty sure that there are always the same amount of cops on the road, 24/7. So when there are fewer cars (late night, etc.), the %age of cops is actually much, much higher!

I stand corrected, in NorCal, I'm pickup up the Ka band. I guess that isn't Lidar. Lidar is what the OPD got me speeding with.

Thanks

[QUOTE=Martin S.;4608434]I was told by a retired CHP officer in the Paso Robles, CA area, there once was a parade of exotic cars driving from I 5 to Highway 46 headed west. They had a helicopter spotting for them, and all were in communication with the helicopter.
CHP airplane spotted them and they were all caught including the helicopter pilot.
/QUOTE]

Martin - your getting my heart racing. Im not going to incriminate myself but if anyone is looking for an exciting spirited ride - check out the 46. It crosses over the san andreas fault and if you are quick enough, you get the sensation of negative g's. Awesome road!

You guys really have nothing to complain about.
In the state that I live in, we have our cops doing the radar and laser thing, I know a few of them and most will allow 15kph over before they pull you over.

We also have private contractors that operate mobile speed cameras. These are in plain cars and SUVs and just stop on the side of the road and start taking pictures. Their government set tolerance for exceeding the speed limit is 3 kph. So in a 60kph zone ( 37.5 mph) you will be booked at 63 kph (39.4 mph) and it’s around $135 Au ($118 US).

On the main arterial roads in Melbourne there are many fixed speed cameras, all with the same low tolerance.

Also on parts of the main freeway that traverses our state there are fixed speed cameras that will take your picture whether you are speeding or not. If you are, you get a ticket in the mail. Regardless of your speed, your car is photographed and then it’s compared with the next photo taken further down the road. So they measure your average speed between the two cameras so you can not just slow down when you get to the cameras and then speed up again.

I agree with cmos and richardew.
We all know the rules, if we choose to speed and get caught, just swear under your breath and cop it on the chin.
Anyway, think of all the other times you’ve sped and got away with it.
I know when I get my next ticket it doesn’t even come close to making up for all the times I didn’t get one. I'm still a loooooong way in front

Oh for Pete's sake. For the most part, speeding tickets are about the fine, nothing else. Sure there are times when it is legit and the guy is being an ***...weaving, tailgating, etc. But the Autobahn, besides being the fastest, is also the safest, albeit with significantly better drivers after having passed a test that was more than "School buses stop at railroad crossings: True or False", higher technology assistance, fewer cup holders, and fewer soccer moms/dads in minivans or Priuses, and a sense of actual lane discipline, something completely ignored in America.

Some dumbasses that believe by not speeding s/he is being "safe" and therefore can ignore the world around them (not saying it is you, CMOSS...I doubt you approach it that way in a 993), "after all, what could happen? I'm not speeding" are MUCH more of a public menace and in need of a good public flogging than someone doing 20+ mph over with their head on a swivel, aware of every car around them.

I mean no personal disrespect, but the viewpoint that not speeding is safer is an utter crock and those with that attitude should not be driving, IMHO.

thanks for the tread.
Yesterday in Tampa on the upper part of the crosstown i spotted a bland unmarked and unremarkable f150 on the right burm. Surprised (not really) to see a motorcycle cop in front and perpendicular to the truck holding radar-lazer gun. The requisite 7 or 8 ticketing cops were a quarter mile down the road, very busy indeed.

Tampons beware

That's TPD's new end of the month thing to make the budget. The got me the Friday before Christmas, coming off the Howard Frankland bridge exit onto Kennedy. I was driving in a pack of about 6 cars, where the speed limit drops to 45, just before the light at Mariner Drive. They got all of us with the laser from behind the pickup trick. 62 in a 45...just enough to make it the bigger fine for more than 15 over. Lawyer got it adj. withheld but I still had to contribute to the revenue stream
