Default Techron now or wait?

I usually put in Techron before an oil change. This time I did not. Should I put it in now after the oil change or wait until the next time?

The horse has already left the paddock -- wait until next time.

(You now have 12+ qrts. of FRESH oil in there. The additives, already IN the fresh oil, are already doing the job that a measly bottle of Techron would be attempting to do in worn-out oil.)

Weird... I know they add a bottle in AFTER every oil change at Callas Rennsport. At least they do with me.

Techron has nothing to do with the additives in oil

It has everything to do with supplementing the additives in the gas....

Yeah, I'm with CJ. I thought Techron was a fuel additive to clean fuel system and reduce deposits on exhaust valves?

I typically add it before an oil change as -some- amount of the additive will get into the oil as does fuel. Rings dont seal perfectly.

Techroline works good in the gas - is it commercially marketed as 'Techron'??? Is there a limit as to how many techroline applications you should use?

Techroline is Chevron's gasoline. It is gasoline with a small amount of Techron in it. Techron is a fuel system cleaner that was developed for Chevron by a company called BG Products who sell the additive under their own label as BG44. I'm not sure if the concentration is the same but it is my understanding that the chemical is the same and as part of the development deal with Chevron, BG is not allowed to sell it under the name Techron, or mention Techron in advertizing. BG makes a wide variety of fuel system cleaning chemicals and tools as well as lubricants--high quality stuff.

Adding Techron to your Techroline increases the concentration in the gas and helps clean fuel system deposits. I have heard people say that the Techron gets into the oil here and there through the injection and combustion process and can speed the breakdown of the oil. I don't know if this is true, especially with synthetics, but I play it safe and only use the Techron in the last few hundred miles prior to an oil change. Techron is strong stuff, when cleaning my SAI ports I was surprised at how fast it ate away deposits around the exhaust ports.

Amfab - to add "fuel to the fire then" - The Streather book indicates that fuel system cleaning additives should not be added to the gas...did not elaborate 'why'...

If you guys are really interested in a good flush prior to an oil change there is an old school method of adding a can of "Marvel Mystery" oil in the lubrication system and let it idle for 12-20 minutes and then change the oil. Essentially I think that is just ATF fluid which have a detergent effect and will clean any gunk build up in the engine fairly well.

I'm glad to see that I am not the only one who is not sure.

The bottle is black.

My mechanic routinely adds techron after the oil change, but I always tell him not to do it on mine, I always added before the oil change after reading rennlist. From memory the bottle does not specify when to add.
