Lightbulb Tired of your amber tail lights? (this is for the ROW folks)

This should probably go in another discussion area, but this is the audience I'm looking for. Read on...

So, I thought I'd throw this out there and see if I get any bites...

I gather that the European cars (and some ROW cars too) came equipped with the amber tail light lenses. I've also read that there seems to be a "grass is always greener" phenomenon with this. We in the USA, want the amber lenses, while some ROW folks want our red lenses. Mine are in excellent condition (see photos below). The photos aren't very good (cell phone photos), but I can assure you that they're in great shape.

Would anybody be interested in a trade? We each pay for shipping to the other and that's it. It beats buying new ones!! Of course, the amber lenses must be in comparable condition, and it would be a straight across trade.

Let me know via PM.

At least 10HP per side... that's why I have amber lens on my TT

BTW, those lens do look like they're in great shape. Good Luck!

well, I hear that the red plastic weighs less, and a little weight reduction in the rear goes a long way!

I know I'm unlikely to get a deal, but why not try?

Funny you mention this. I was just thinking how I might want the Amber lenses. I was looking at this picture and thinking that a friends 993 4S in the back ground looked better with the amber lenses than my 993 in the forground. The grass is always greener analogy is perfect.

Yep - seems grass is greener on the other side...

Red rear lense for me thanks.

Personally, I like a consistent (red) strip across the back. For the same reason I've got clear indicator lenses on the front.

Just that you all know :

For those in the US : The RoW tail lights don't have the 5W side marker light.

For those in the RoW : The US tail lights have red blinking turn signals and no "E1" approval stamps on the lenses.

I did this exact swap (my amber tails for a set of US spec red tails) with centerpunch about a half-year back. He paid less for shipping but the whole deal ended up costing less than usd30. Fair enough for shipping across the pond .

Funny post, I've been thinking about making the *exact* same proposition.

I also have perfect condition red lenses, but would prefer amber. After Todd gets his, please put me next in line for the trade.

This is true, but a heat gun, 3/4" paddle bit and a utility knife makes about an hours work of job to make the Euro lenses US compatible.
The lenses get pulled apart (heat gun) to remove the "blank" that covers where our side marker light go. While its apart, a 3/4" hole gets drilled tto accept the 5w light socket and the utility knife cuts the 2 notches that allow the socket tabs thru the drilled hole.
No fix for the Red lense use in Europe.....sorry

Too funny.....
everyone switches to clear fronts, so they match with the fog lights.
We already get the "all matching" red taillights, and people want to change them to "not" match.
Strange phenomenon.
I like the all red, myself....but I'm a freak!!!!!!

I do the amber, so they match the Euro front amber turns. I don't like the clears because they never match any of the other clear lights. Plus the amber rears re an "oldschool" throwback for those that know what they're looking at
