Default Downside to 19" wheels?

Tried search and can't get the parameters to work. What's the downside for 19" wheels on a 993? Doesn't the 997 come with 19's?

Ride harshness.
Possible rubbing in some cases.

you will end up using even taller tires that will hurt the already bad gearing.

More weight, taller gearing, possible rubbing, harsher ride and on '95 cars, possible problems with the steering rack. Other than looks, it's all downside.

+1

The weight issue (rotating mass) and increased tire leverage would be enough to dissuade me from putting 19" wheels on my sports car.

19" much more expensive and size selection is more limited...

And now for a reply from someone that actually has them...

The car rides a bit higher than with 18's, although maybe with different tires than what I have it would be closer. No noticeable difference in accelleration, but you shouldn't be driving that fast on the street anyway. No rubbing if you get the proper offset. And I think they ride BETTER than the 18s. My theory is that with my VERY HEAVY 19's, they smooth out some of the smaller bumps. The only real downside is they are arguably too big for the wheel wells and make the car look like a Hot Wheels car. But I kinda like that look.

I had 19" cargraphics on my car for about 6 months-they were boat anchors. First of all-the car felt a lot less nimble. If I had a TT maybe they wouldn't have made that much differenct but on a NA-they really hurt performance and overall feel of the car.

I don't think so. Maybe it is the difference in the tires? Unless they are the same brand in different sizes I doubt their sidewall stiffness is identical.

Default ...maybe because of the heaviness...

...they sort of roll over small bumps like a pavement roller would.

I like my 7.5 & 10" 18's. Love them actually and I think they would be fine for nubee running at a track. I put the 16's on for the heck of it a few days ago and they DO sU*k. The 18's feel scary good in the corners and the ride quality is terrific on the P-zero Asym's. The 16's DO accelerate noticably faster though due to their lighter weight but they are squirmy and unsettled in corners and the car leans. ON the other hand the steering wheel feels lighter too. If you could find forged 19's that come in the same weight as 18's with tires mounted, you may be ok??? Just 02cts worth...

Hey, It was just a theory. My thinking was more mass, less deflection. I find the pss9 - even at full soft - a bit harsh and they seem more plush with the 19's. Maybe I'm just trying to rationalize an irrational purchase.
