Default H&R or Eibach

Guys, I did a search and still not sire what to do. Anyway, I have access to a set of H&R and a set of Eibach springs for my 95 993 C2. The car is stock and I am going to do a Bilstein kit when I get the money. for now, I have got to get the car lower and Im wondering which ones to put in. both sets are used and i am forced to keep my stock shocks for now (79k). Like I said, this is temporary. I dont want to kill the ride but I want the lower of the 2 as long as the rates arent rock hard......Opinions?

With just springs, keep in mind you'll be paying for two alignments as with 79K on those dampers, you will certainly hate the ride.

Of the two choices you have presented, H&R's.

Thanks! I know it is a bad decision but I dont have a choice right now. I need to take the car to instruct a school and cant take it like it is. when I do the suspension I will do it all at one time. I nest need to get the car lower.

Here are the spring rates I collected from this list.

If you're running the stock shock, then your best best is the Eibach since the spring rates are similar to the stock rate. The H&R will probably not work out with the stocker.

standard US suspension is 150-200 front and 225-275
factory M030 150-200 fr 225-275 rr
PSS9: Front: 225 - 250 lbs Rear: 400 - 685 lbs
Eibach 7209 120 fr 200 rr
Weltmeister 180 fr 268 rr
H&R peformance 240-260 fr 280-310 rr
H&R coilovers 290-310 fr 350-370 rr

Thanks! It looks like the eibachs will be the best option. What about ride height between the 2?

FWIW,.......We use H&R's due to sagging issues with Eibach street springs for many years.

Steve, since I have to use the stock shocks for now should I use the eibachs since the rates are lower? I dont really care about sagging since I dont mind if it gets a bit lower....

My opinion?,...If you are simply stuck with the stock shocks (by FAR the weakest link), save your cheese ($$$) until you can swing shocks & springs.

1) Stiffer springs of ANY kind simply overpower OEM shocks, much less ones that have some miles on them. This makes for a lot of vertical pitching as the car goes over bumps and undulations. Its not very comfortable.

2) Installation, cornerweight and a proper alignment are not cheap even if you put in everything yourself. Its less $$$ to do this once,...

With all due respect, this makes absolutely zero sense. Firstly, old, worn out stock shocks will be simply overwhelmed by either of these springs. Secondly, the old worn US shocks will quickly bottom out with a shorter spring, ESPECIALLY at the track. (Stock US shock's shafts are longer than ROW shocks and you'll end up with more than an inch LESS travel with shocks that don't work.) Thirdly, with a change of springs comes a FULL alignment, and replacing the shocks later will result in ANOTHER expensive alignment, so you might just as well get it done right the first time. Fourthly, there is no requirement at any track that I know of for a specified ride height.

Betcha break something or trash your car (or hurt someone or another car) when the shocks bottom out hard at the worst possible moment.

My car came with stock shocks and H&R springs. The ride was pretty rough and handling was so-so. First thing I did was go with Bilstein HD's and kept the H&R springs for about three months. Switched to MO33 with the bilsteins. Great street set up for me. No track, etc. From another post, I guess my spring rates might be a little soft for the HD's. On paper. It works great in execution for street driving.

Hate to be a naysayer, but I just had H&Rs put on my 95 993 with 99k miles. It was an LA car and I doubt it ever was driven anywhere but the freeway. The shocks were absolutely fine. Believe me the shop would love to have sold me a new set of "schtossdampfer". The shop said they were almost like new. Apprenently unless your car is jumping up and down after you lean on it, you can't really tell till they are out of the car. I commend you on lowering the car. Lowered is how the car came in Europe but in this country the feds determine ride height. You will not believe the handling difference. NO offense to anyone who has not done this project, a 911 at USA height looks like a ladder should flip out when the door is opened. Ride height should be the first project bar none. You will love it. Oreder the springs and start the job. If you need the shocks either cover on a card or look around for some stock, new shocks that someone wants to unload after tricking their suspension for major performance. damn the ride. IMHO there is very little change in the ride quality. I just got off a 500 mile trip through a lot of twisties and the car was amazing. I was sad when I pulled into the driveway.
Go For it!!

a french porsche magazine did a 993 stock to eibach/bilstein comparison on a race track and found a 2" diffference per 1 minute round.
I went with that and love it - more confortable than stock and much better handling.
i would do eibach now and once you have the money bilstein.
