Rattling shifter...???
The bane of my current 993 existence (other than my dreaded CEL on all the time), the rattling shifter
Does your shifter sort of pull up and down and make a clanking noise???

I remember you stating this the other day. My shifter has no up & down movement whatsoever. I had the entire linkage apart a few weeks ago in order to install the RS shift rod and new bushings. The only way I could see vertical movement happening is if the slide bushings on the large tube (part #27 in the attached pic) were worn out. The whole setup is actually quite simple in design and easy to access once the car is on stands and you've removed the center tunnel cover.
As for Steve - we installed the MY02 shift **** and have not been able to quell an RPM-specific rattle at the ****. We tried on at least 3 occasions to somehow insulate the **** from the shifter, to no avail. I think the noise he is experiencing is a combination of various connections and joints in the linkage having play.

hey........does this count? They are Frederique Constant Healey Editions. FC sponsors a LeMans style race for the Healey Club every other year. I have the inaugural watch ('04) #401/888. I also have the '06 #461/1888. They are a great auto chronograph with a val. 7750 movement, display caseback and a heavy stainless case. I happened on them while in the Cayman's years ago and just found I love the look and feel. I still go to the same guy down there to buy them.....call him and he sends it to me

Andreas - I ordered a pair of the #28 bushings the other day in anticipation of this repair. So in your estimation I can do the whole repair from underneath 'just' by removing the tunnel cover? I read a good 964 thread from a guy that did this repair, but he attacked it from both the top (under the boot) and underneath.
Still interested in a beer or two while you supervise my clutch slave cylinder replacement???

Porsche drivers are like pilots - big watch with roating dials and several different hands! Of course Navy divers used to tell me that the reason they would go down deep to drag up a pilot from davey jones locker was to get the watch! LOL!

I have one of these too, but its.......sick, right now 
I bought it used and the PVC wasn't in great shape so I disassembled it and buffed all the coating off to reveal a nice stainless case. Its also an auto chrono val.7750 (poor mans Heurer Pasedena). I wound it manually and I thing over wound the spring. Only turn a few times and gets tight, so I guess one day I'll have to send it to someone. Anyone got any good watch wrenches they can recommend?
The bottom one is my latest. Its a great looking beater
