Default Where to get a windshield?

I found a windshield installer who comes highly recommended, but he cannot find an aftermarket windshield in the Memphis area. From my searches on RL, aftermarket windshields are better (and cheaper) than factory. He suggested getting an OEM from the stealer if I cannot find an aftermarket one anywhere. I have searched the net for a couple days, and no one appears to sell them. I assume this is due to shipping issues. Windshields break all the time, so someone has to sell the darn things. The bigger shops (Safelite) want $1100 and up and will not do at my house (which brings up the point of letting it sit for 24 hours). Some place I've never heard of will do it for $850, but I don't trust them. Any ideas where I can get a windshield?

My car is in the shop for paint right now, and I need to replace the windshield too. I certainly don't want to put the old chipped one back in. I will be watching this thread with interest.

As a reference I had mine replaced for under $500. Great job, installer came to my house and was done in 2 hours.

Atlanta Glass Works, Peter Hicks 770-442-8642

Highly reccomended.

just an update - I found a couple places on the internet, but neither had anything for our cars. I broke down this morning and called the local dealer - $895 for the windshield only, and there are none in the US, so I would have to pay an additional $75 to have it shipped from Germany. I find it hard to believe that with all the 993's around that no one has windshield in stock. While Memphis is not huge, we do have 1,000,000 + people in the metro area, you would think someone could find me a freakin windshield.

Contact Dan through http://www.carsinc-nj.com . I have no affiliation and have no idea how he arranges the transaction, but I know he has a nice windshield. Feel free to tell him I sent you.

I got mine from HBL Porsche here in Northern Virginia. Might want to give them a call.

I am going through this. State Farm connected me to Glass America which uses a glass supplier I have never heard of not a Porsche part or a Sigla part. Trust worthy?
