No expert here, but I usually start driving slowly (under 3000 rpm 30mph) for a few minutes then start "normal" 993 driving. Hope this helps

This from another thread:

This is what Tony Callas taught me:

1) Start the engine and begin driving immediately, keeping it under 3K 'till the oil temp is at 8:00 (no static warm-ups).
2) Redline it briefly at "8:00 oil" (operating temp) to blow the junk out. 2nd gear is OK for this--road conditions permitting.
3) Keep it at 4K all times thereafter.

Bad - I believe there have been a few threads on this in the past. It is better to drive (slowly at first as mentioned by Howard, around 3-4k) - this gets oil moving and lubricating all of the important bits, and air flowing to keep things cool...

Fire it off, buckle up and check your mirrors. Unless it's been sitting in sub-zero temps, that's all the time it needs for good oil pressure and to make sure oil is going everywhere it needs to go. At that point, get moving but take it easy, like others have suggested. In any engine, the faster you get up to operating temp and get off the rich cold-engine fuel mixture washing down the cylinders, the better. This is best accomplished by a few miles of easy driving, rather than excessive idling.

A few seconds are alright but I wouldn't be doing it like you are. O f course if you forgot something in the house, it would be OK to let it idle for a minute, but not for long.

An idling 993 is the devil's taxi.

30 seconds after she's fired up, get her moving. The owners manual even says NOT to warm it with idling. Callas told me the same thing, as described in the other threads, emphasizing that the OP is at it's lowest when she's idling. I keep her under 3k until the temps reach normal, and then she goes "on duty."

The key isn't on the left because Porsche wants you to sit for 5 minutes after starting.

Start 'er up, let idle for fifteen seconds or so, then start driving at a very, very moderate pace, keeping revs under 3000 or so. After oil temps get up to the third mark/8:00 o'clock/194 degree Fahrenheit, you're good to go. I do this with all of my cars.

Cruising speed, although I allow 3500, conditions permitting. We're almost done beating the dead horse over here:
