Question Best Track Pads?

It's time for new pads and I was hoping for some feedback from fellow DE drivers. I'm doing about 15 days a year and I just went through the Pagid Sports on the front and OEM on the rears.

I've also considered getting OEM for driving around town and a set for track, any others doing this?

Any advice would be highly welcome as there are many choices...

Regards,

The pagid orange compound is a great track pad albeit expensive. People swear by Performance Friction 97 pads. I use and like Hawk Blues pads.

Not quite "engine tray," "Cab vs. Coupe" or "6 spd. vs. Tip," but I'm finding a comfortable chair...we may be here a while

Josh,

What run group are you in? If you're blue or green, the Textar pads are a fine compromise for road and track. Although I've run Hawk Blues on the track for a number of years, I've started to use Hawk's very well-regarded HT-10 compound due to similar characteristics to Blue, yet yielding brake dust that is less corrosive.

Tons of threads in the archives, enough that, if you mushed them all together, you could... make your own brake pads.

Pat,

I am not a fan of the Pagid Oranges. After washing the car or running it in the rain, the Oranges leave a pad deposit on the rotors that can only be scrubbed off with something abrasive like Hawk Blues. If you don't, you'll get the sensation of warped rotors.

Mark,

Running in Solo at DE's and still believing that the only thing wrong with the car is the driver

Pagid Sports seemed great, big squeals but that does not bother me...

Thanks to all for the replies

Hey Mark!

Yeah, I've used the HT-10's on my M3 and they were great. I might give them a try on the 993 after I go through the next set of blues. Have you tried the PF-97 compound? I've been really happy w/ Hawk pads I'm not sure I'm going to change. Plus, you can beat the price of Hawk pads.

Hey Pat,

I've never tried the PFC-97's, just Textars, Pagid Oranges, Hwok Blues and Hawk HT-10's. So far, the HT-10's are the best track pads, IME.

I hope you have not had any reason to fully utilize my old DAS bar.

I have used the HT-10s as well....so far so good although the car could use some more cooling. I have also been using them on the street and they are very noisy so I just bought some HPS'.

I ran Cobalt Friction, then Hawk Blue, now Hawk HT-10 and I'm happiest with the HT10 performance wise and with longevity. I was only getting about 10-12 days before, but the HT-10 seem to be lasting me a lot longer. Just my experience.

I installed the TechArt front brake ducts and hoping that will help a little. I guess I'm going to order a set of HT-10 pads soon

Mark, thank goodness I haven't need the roll over protection from the bar. Now get some pictures of that Piper cage online

I too use the Hawk HT-10s, both on my 993 when i still owned it, and now on the 964 Cup. Best pad for the $$$ i have ever used.

I would definitely swap pads for street and track on a street car. Not only to avoid the loud squealing, but you will also see the rotors last a lot longer. Track pads are toughest on your rotors when they are cold/cool.

I agree. However, if the car is mostly used for track events, then you don't really need to bother swapping out the HT10. It doesn't squeal that badly, and its street performance is really very nice. Wear is less an issue for 993s used primarily as track cars because your rotors will die from heat stress cracking from track events (instead of street wear).

... but then again, maybe I'm just lazy...
