Default Ignition Leads

Hi - I have just been told by my shop that I need to replace the ignition leads (x12) on my car. The price for parts and labour is a little over US$800 . Are they really that expensive? And are they that difficult to replace?

Also need to replace the right side drive shaft boots which is pretty pricey...doh!

Grateful for any insight.
Thanks Alan

Dunno about prices in HK, but it seems quite reasonable. A set of leads is about 500 USD, and putting them in is no small task.

I priced an entire set of leads including all nit noid parts & looms, etc. at a little over 400 bucks from Sunset. Local dealer wants 750 bucks just for the parts.

The set comprises of the twelve leads running from the distributor caps to the spark plugs AND the two leads from the HT coils to the distributors. Included are new connectors. Seperate connectors run 20 $ each if bought seperately. Often the two behind the mufflers have damaged rubber caps.

You may want to consider replacing the rotors and distributor caps as well. At least inspect them carefully. They often show traces of extreme spark wear.

Have a look at p-car.com for a DIY on the plug wires, it is a painful job.
