...might not pass State inspection though since the valve is not sealed so to speak:^(

Yeah Bruce I thought about that leakage thing, but I figured I coud get it reasonably tight. I was also thinking if I could get the whole apparatus really close to the junction of the inlet pipe and the LPMM bypass, maybe when the bypass was full open a part of the valve would end up in the air stream that feeds the muffler and choke it by 10 or 15%......
As for state inspections, My LPMM wont pass that anyway.
I think I could fab this up, what it comes down now is taking the time to do it. Every day I am getting more and more used to the LPMMs, and I have been spending a lot of time recently taking the car a part and putting it back together. . .and Im planning on an SAI flush soon. . . oy
I read those other threads, how close was the valve to fitting? or was it even close? I imagine it was those big flanges that got in the way.
The LPMMs are still are a bit loud for me at times, its weird, they seem louder when the car is cold. Would there be a reason for that?
Sure would be nice to control them from inside the cabin.

Oh, I never thought about the emissions test...will the LPMM mod make the car fail?

In California, there is a visual inspection, I think a modified muffler may cause it to fail if the smog guy notices

No way! Wire it up to the throttle position sensor, which should be pretty simple. Idle = closed valve. Full throttle = open valve.

They don't know what stock is.....I passed with Supercups, and they don't even question it. If Supercups can pass, LPMM will never be an issue. Besides, if the mod is done cleanly, it looks stock.

I called RUF Dallas about those, and I was told they had never sold one (in Dallas), so he couldn't comment on sound or anything. And that's quite a chunk o' change.

Personally, I'm hoping my cats will clog so I can justify sport cats.

Yes..looked at the RUF system...$2500 or so plus it is only vacuum operated.

If I were to do anything in addition to the LPMMs, I would put a valve in the inlet to the muffler to force more exhaust and NOISE through the bypass. That way I could vary between the LPMM sound and short straight pipes...I am thinking similar to Supercups type of sound.

As it turns out, I do not need to vary between stock and the LPMM bypass. There is no issues with the sound of the LPMMs in the normal use of the car. Wife doesn't think it is too loud and there is no resonance.

So I could go louder at times but again, how to engineer a decent priced valve....

Ciao

Dumb question: can the LPMM mod be done INSIDE the case. In other words, the bypass occurs inside the case - no way for a smog inspector to notice. Might be a pain though - not sure how Robin S. does his RSR's though, but I would not be surprised if he is doing a small 'lpmm' inside the case.

Yes, it could be done on the inside. In fact, there is already a small bypass tube on the stock muffler and a slightly larger one on the OEM Motor-Sound Muffler. You can gut the fiberglass stuffing or do more mods as well. See HERE.

Jeff,

Any updates to your experiment? Did you put the fiberglass back in and did that help with the resonance issues?

No real way to do that to an empty can. Since I just bought some Fabspeed Supercups, the experimenting has been put on the back burner for a while as I pursue other projects. My car is now in for a total respray including turbo front bumper, TT tail, painted rear bumperettes, and 'S' ducts along with raingutter, bumperette & headlight washer delete! The car has been out for 6 weeks now, probably a week or two more before I get it back. It is killing me!
