Question My Check Engine Light came on.

I have a 1996 C2 Cabriolet Tiptronic. The other day I was driving home and there was a really bad burning smell. I thought it was the car in front of me. At that point the CEL came on and the car died. I pulled to the side of the road and realized the burning smell was coming from under the drivers seat. I got out of the car and checked the engine and there was no smoke or anything under the car. After several attempts I was able to restart the car. The oil level looked fine and I drove it 5 miles back home. The car had less power and shifted fine but I got it home. When I got home I plugged in my notebook with the OBD2 software running on it and there was no fault codes. The only thing it showed was an ACCM error. Which stands for auto clutch control module. Any ideas?

-Could it be the Auto trans control module?
-Could it be the DME?
-Do I need to remove the seat to get to these modules?
-Can I test these modules with a volt ohm meter?

Thanks for your help!!!

Thanks for the response!!
Yes, it was changed at the recommended time as well as the filter / screen. However it did have a slight leak with an occasional drop on the ground. I asked the dealer to check it during the last oil change and they said it was fine. I will check it again this weekend.

What was the burning smell like - electrical or fluid stench? Sounds like your DME could have been cooked.

It kind of smelled like rubber. The smell is only coming from under the drivers seat. The car is in the garage and there is no smell from the outside. I will put it on ramps this weekend and check the trans fluid level and also pull the drivers seat to get a better look.
Thanks for the help!!
