That welding doesn't look very good quality on the "Motorsound" silencer...

It isn't very good quality on the normal cans either. It was obviously done with a high speed (mig /wire-feed) production type welder.

Well let me tell you, they did not skip out on the quality of the cans, that heavy stainless took me an hour and a half to cut open both mufflers.... and for like 2 lbs of steel wool.... so not worth the effort. This had better sound amazing.

So if the steel wool is only 2 lbs, I wonder where Robin finds the other 13 lbs to remove!!

What the heck did you use to cut them open? I cut mine open in about 5 minutes each with a cutoff wheel on a 4-1/2" angle grinder. If all you are doing is removing the packing, you may be a bit disappointed. I did a bit more, and it helped, but ultimately I wanted more sound. SEE HERE
Eventually I attempted to do the internal version of the LPMM, but I burned through in a few places due to my lousy welding skills. Now I have completely gutted mufflers. This obviously wasn't my original intention, but they actually sound really good without being obnoxiously loud. The downside is that they do have a little bit of resonance around 3k rpm. They also have a slight burble with engine braking/deceleration which I kind of like. I may try the LPMM on my first set modified mufflers (in the link above) next.

I used a cutoff wheel on a 3" angle grinder, took foerver because my cans were 2 layers thick.

You cut them too close to the top. That is where the end cap and side can overlap ( you know that now). If you just remove the packing material, and that is all, you WILL be disappointed. Not hardly any change at all.

So does anyone have LPPM'd RSR's? If so I want to hear that sound clip.
