Default BMC Air filter installed: thoughts

I have a drilled air box with the MSP hole pattern (many small holes). I have RSR mufflers. I changed the filter to BMC for a little more of an agressive sound.

It actaully did the opposite. It is more tame now.

What will happen if I drill bigger holes?

I am thinking of switching back to stock AIR FILTER. If anyone wants an alomst new ( 10KM) old bmc filter, let me know.

I actually used the BMC filter long ago but after many discussing and some scientific test from members on rennlist decided to go back to stock.

My first problem was that the air filter housing cover was too tight and end up cutting into the BMC filter silicon surrounds. Of course this would happen as the stock air filter housing is designed for the thin paper filter.

also, oil from the BMC filter and alike can be sucked into and coat the Mass Air element and cause it to react slowly or to be ineffective.

In the end I went back to factory paper air filter and was happy ever since.

Do a search for the "tests".

yeah. I had to cut the filter border to fit in without squeezing to hard.

Wow - how did you 'clean' the oil off the MAF sensor element???

on my 4 runner I just used MAF sensor cleaner... found at local parts store. Its in an aerosol can. After treatment the truck was much more responsive.

Never touched the 993 though as I did not have the BMC filter on for long - less than 100 miles...

I am using an F1 filter now in my 993 and agree it was a tight fit due to the thickness of the silicone edge. I also use one on my 964 and not had any problems with the oil. After cleaning only minimal oil is needed and can be overdone easily.

As for performance, I can't give any concrete evidence there any better than stock.
