Short shifter...B&M or Weltmeister

Automotion has a sale on for the B&M and the Weltmeister Short shift kit. The latter describes as some factory parts may need modification but the B&M states that it's a direct bolt on.
Has anyone installed one of these kits? I would think it would be a great upgrade from the factory longer shifts - B&M claims 45% shorter throws.
Any pros or cons in going forward with the install?

There you go. You beat me to the keyboard, I was just about to post a similar question. I will be interested in the responses you get. I would especially like to know if the B&M reduces the throw % more than the RS (OE) shifters? I am not sure but was under the impression that the OE RS shifter was only 20-30%.
I wonder if the aftermarkets are just RS knockoffs.

Just my two cents, the B&M is a nice solid shifter that will reduce throws by 30-40%. The problem that some people have is with engaging reverse. Also if your in the market for a short shift kit look into www.stratmosphere.com they make Porsche shift kits for the 993.

But I guess I am a skeptic considering some mfg hp claims in the exhaust category!

One of my first mods was the B&M shift kit. It took the slop out of the linkage and shortened the throw closer to 35% than 45%. I'm glad I did it. IIRC I paid around $269.

I thought I always read to go with the RS short shift (keep it OEM). Further, I also read here that the B&M was a piece of crap. Not so in this thread.
I know the short shift install takes a little effort in an AWD 993... will the B&M work with a C4S?

Here's my input. Just had the B&M installed when the clutch and LWF were installed. Have had it back about three days and it is very precise, almost a notchy feel like the old BMW gearbox. No problem with engaging reverse gear at this point. The feel is nice - I would estimate that the throw is reduced 35 -40% as others have said. I saw the kit before it was installed and it looks exactly like the RS kit. Overall the car is MUCH better with the LWF and the SSK. The throttle response is excellent and no issues with stalling - with or without the AC on. As they say - a no-brainer - go for it.

I have the RS pieces in my C4S. It eliminates slop and makes a much more precise shift movement. I think 40% throw reduction figures are pretty optimistic. In my case the benefit was more about slop reduction than a greatly shortened throw.

The advertised 45% shift length reduction is misleading. I bought on this premise hoping to have a really short, quick throw like I see in the race cars. Some of those shifters seem to click between gears in a 1/2 inch or 1 inch. I was initially disappointed that the B&M wasn't like that. That being said, it is still a great improvement over stock.
Anyone know about the race shifters I am thinking of? Who makes them and how much $$ ?
